So a group of my friends have decided they want to make a game. They came to me for art direction and to help make some concepts for environments and shit. They said I could make whatever I want since it's the concept stage, as long as it has a medieval theme to it. I said okay, because why the fuck not.

However, I have no idea what type of art style or color pallet to use. So, I need your help. Tell me what type of color pallet.art style you'd might like to see in a medieval game. (Not sure what the story is about, as writing is still concept as well. They think they might do a hero's journey type thing.)

HALP.

Feet first into fun!
Try a bunch, that's what concept art is for. Do some more realistic ones, some bright colorful fancy ones, maybe some goofy ones, or whatever, and let them decide which they like best.

I will. I'd just like some outside opinions as well.

What sort of medieval?
Fantasy or realistic?

For fantasy, a bright colour palette would work, but for realistic, a darker one would.
You also want to reflect the theme of the game in the colours, a game with a dark story doesn't usually have bright greens and yellow. For example.

What Flee said. I think if they give you a basic idea of what the game is about you'll have a much easier time deciding.

We always say to fight fire, you must use fire. This is wrong. Fighting fire with fire will leave scars and a new flame will rise. We must instead use water. It is the opposite of fire, it extinguishes the fire, it cools, it refreshes, it heals. We are made up of 70% water, we are not made up of 70% fire. Please practice what we truly are
Try something like that?
