In Halo 3 the MC did a free fall right into the ground which the trauma from it would generate a force which is far stronger than that punch, despite that the fall did no harm at all to his armor, it didn't even crack the visor. I know the force from the punch is directly on the visor unlike the force from the fall which is spreading out over the whole body, but Locke punched something which is able to move away from him. The MC on the other hand impacted the ground with a great amount of force which didn't move away from him and he hit hard enough to cause a crater. So how did that punch manage to crack a visor which is strong enough to withstand the force of crashing into the ground at around 120mph?

Plot.

Pretty sure he crashed to the ground twice as so. Even if he did use stripped metal to prevent himself from burning up, that's still a pretty strong impact.

I know Halo is a sci-fi, but the nanobot shit I find to be extremely forced and pushing the setting. The MC should have received either new armor or an upgraded to it on the Infinity, not by magic.

At the time, I didn't even know nanotechnology existed in the Halo universe.

Same here, there was no mention of it in the Bungie games nor the non-343 books as far as I know(The farthest I read was Ghost of Onyx). Nanobots were either brought up in one of the post 343 books or it was simply thrown out there to poorly justify their unneeded change of the MC's armor right from the start of the game.

That's because it's used as a cheap deus ex machina to give token explanations for what would otherwise amount to an unworkable plot.

How are the Spartan suits vacuum proof both not waterproof?

Why can a Spartan survive a fall from space but not from 100 meters?

Why can a knife puncture a Spartan suit?

Why did Cortana choose to represent herself as a nudist?

For all the effort it takes to create a smart AI, what with requiring a human brain and all, isn't an expected life of only about seven years extremely shitty?

Didn't they say that his armor went into some sort of "lockdown mode"?

First three are gameplay stuff.

Fourth one because 16 year olds.

Technological limits I guess.

They did. The true purpose of armor lock is to prevent further injury to the wearer. For example when the MC impacted the ground his armor locked up to prevent his body from moving around which would cause him even more pain and damage if his bones are broken. The armor lock in Reach is just gameplay.

We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried, most people were silent. I remembered the line from the shitlord scripture the Bhagavad Reeeeeeeta; Kek is trying to persuade the prince that he should save his people, and to impress him takes on his frog-headed form, and says, "Now I am become meme, the destroyer of cucks." I suppose we all thought that, one way or another.
Why can a Spartan survive a fall from space but not from 100 meters?
Actually this is semi believeable. Helicopters can survive engine failure if there a few meters off the ground, since the fall is too small; or from a few hundred meters up, since they have enough time to cause the blades to "glide" using the momentum of the fall. But anywhere in between, and it's too high for a safe crash, and too low to glide, so you're guaranteed to die.

So a spartan could survive a fall off a small building, or from orbit, but somewhere in between there's an awkward middle zone that's neither too big nor too small.

maybe armor lock is designed to handle that kind of impact but in the middle of hand to hand combat anything could happen

I'll cough up whatever loose info's in my head.

Spartans usually survive orbital fall with special equipment, a makeshift shield of some kind, or even armour that's built for that specific purpose. In one of the older novels, it's explained that the suit's cushioning gel layer can essentially be amped up to survive a fall of that kind. The success margin is dependant on where and what the spartan lands on as well. In the novel, the spartans that performed the jump didn't all make it. They were II's by the way.

Chief's visor cracking could be explained with simple physics. Application of force to a small directed area as oppossed to a wider margin. Aka spears puncturing through thick metal armour or maces flat out crushing it. It also covers the knife explanation as well.

The nanobot stuff was just lazy in my opinion. I would've been fine if 343 had just said, "Hey, due to our art direction and interpretation, Chief's gonna look a little different."

It's one of the things I actually really don't particularily like about 343. They try to patch up every single little hole with an explanation of some kind, which ends up with a big pile of  stupid and silly explanations that are almost irrelevant to what they were trying to fill up.

For instance. MP fitting into canon and the universe lore. Bungie never specified that their MP was involved in anything, and thus they had the freedom to do whatever really, wheras suddenly, highly interactive hologram tech and simulation programs that interface with the user pop into 343's Halo's universe out of the blue, and we're all just supposed to go, "K."

Armor lock is not designed to reduce any type of impact, it's designed to prevent the users body from being moved around in the event of broken bones. When you have a broken bone or shattered ones, moving them around is going to causes even more pain and injuries, armor lock is there to prevent that.
