You either die a hero or live long enough to become Mythic..
Know. You'll get items like "Fading Soul" or "Soul of a Crestfallen Knight" these types of souls can be used or "consumed" for more souls.

people are exaggerating how much you need to play the first one quite a bit.

I can tell. Though if I enjoy myself enough I'll definitely fork over some cash for Scholar of the First Sin and DS1 (the latter will be longer because I'd have to set up my PS3 again.) Bloodborne too.

Quote
Also I thought of another tip and I'm gunna avoid spoiling anything here.

Much appreciated.

Quote
The souls you can pick up as items

Those corpses with the glowing white balls above them that read "Pilage remains" or something?

Quote
Bosses also drop souls. DONT consume these until you find out what they do.

What do you mean "consume"? Ive already used some points or something to upgrade my vitality and faith IIRC.
yes when you can pillage corpses sometimes you'll get weapons/armor/consumables but other times you'll get things called names like "souls of a weary traveler" or "soul of a proud knight."If you go into your inventory you can use them to gain souls on the spot.

You should have an item in your inventory called "soul of ____ " (whatever the first bosses name was)
There's one of those for every boss. You CAN use them to gain a large amount of souls. You SHOULD hold on to them until you can do something else with them.

Awesome. Thanks for the tip.

Did the first miniboss beside the beginning area (ice dragon lizard thing) drop a soul?

he drops an uprgrade material  that you can give to the blacksmith to upgrade specific weapons. It's pretty rare for awhile but by the end of the game you'll have tons of it

hey
I started with DS3 too actually, loved it quite a bit

Now I've gone back to the first one, I'm having a harder time because of how less refined and like, rougher the controls are.

Guide to literaly the only viable PvP stratagy

40 viggor
40 Dex
40 Strength
40 Endurance

Thorn set
Grasscrest sheild

Chloranthy ring
Ring of favor
invisible roll ting

any of the following weapons

Estoc
Dark Sword
Any Katana
Carthus Curved Sword

Playstyle:
Buff with Fire, Bleed, or Lightning before every fight.

If your opponent cannot parry you R1 Mash. If they can parry just switch to the biggest weapon you can. It dosnt matter how slow it is, the latency paired with hyper armor will play the game for you.

If your opponent is a sorcerer and manages to sucessfully space you by some miracle of god just throw knives or firebombs. You will outshoot them garunteed. You can also just sidestep and they will literaly never hit you

Dont bother timing rolls. your stamina meter is really just one long invincibility frame meter, roll as long as you want and you will never get hit.

Alternatively you can switch any of these weapons with the Farron great sword or  Gundyr's halberd and spam their special attacks instead. However this costs some of that blue bar, but who cares you;re getting better use out of it than the mages.

If you want to know what every stat does, open the status window of your character and press back/select on your controller. Then you can choose the stat you want to have explained - from obvious stuff like hp to more convoluted concepts like the luck stat and weapon scaling. If the in-game descriptions are still too vague for you you always have a place to ask or a wiki you can consult.
Also; if your inventory is open, take notice of the button prompts below.

Get used to reading item descriptions (by pressing X/square on your controller in the inventory). Many items have neat lore tied to them. Though the main reason to do that is to get to know the purpose of the item. Sometimes the hints are so explicitly stated, that there is no uncertainty as to what to do with them. 'Give to the Shrine Handmaid' or 'Key to the _____ in the _____' - things like that.

Anyway, since you mentioned (role)playing a knight, I assume you'll probably want to stick to the longsword weapon you've got during the game. It's a good weapon so don't worry that you'll have to replace it. But I think you'll also want to utilise miracles - a type of magic - as they're called, for two reasons, I think.
There are quite a few offensive miracles but most focus on support. From various ways of healing, instantaneous and over time, to defense buffs, to curing ones, like getting rid of poisoning. Most of those effects can even be shared with allies. You'll have a lot more options on how to engage in your journey.
Another reason; in DaS lore miracles are tales of the gods, which you are recounting to cast them. There are a few exceptions that tell tales of curses, but those are considered dark and heretical. I thought you'd be fond of that little tidbit.

Though he relies too much on different timelines in his DaS3 vids.

I'm assuming that only matters if you've actually played the games, yes?

So I just spent 2 hours getting fucked at High Wall of Lothric. The final boss isn't even that hard, I just have to get used to the input lag on my tv to time shit better. What gets me every time is the stupid knights.

Luckily i found an elavator so i can just skip most of the ads, but still. This game is worse than jak 2 when it comes to checkpoints. Im going to see if switching to my fast monitor will make any difference.

Very much intentional

Once you find the boss room just run past all the enemies tbh

Also from the bottom of the elevator you can step on it to send it up and then Jump off quickly. That way it will be at the top waiting for you when you inevitably die again

I personally felt there were too MANY bonfires in DS3. Not as bad as 2 maybe, but still there. I guess that's the necessary evil when fast travel and more linear level design is a thing.

linear game design and fast travel would make bonfires an unnecessary evil but that's cool keep parading yourself as some esteemed scholar on game quality.

Except she's right.

Compared to previous games DS3 probably has THE MOST bonfires, even though it's the most linear. DS1 didn't have nearly as many. DS2 is close but I would say DS2 is the most open ended game.
Plus in DS1 you only got fast travel after getting to a certain point, while in DS2 it was basically necessary to have fast travel. DS3 is again the most linear and you can TP to whichever bonfire. I didn't feel nearly as rewarded going through DS3 as I did in the original. Since I can literally run from one to the other within 2 minutes, or fight to one in 5 minutes.

except she isn't, because she said the bonfires were a necessary evil, unlike what you're saying. linear game design and fast travel makes the game easier, making the amount of bonfires present in DS3 unnecessary. she's just trying to get in as many jabs at DS3 as she can to look enlightened or some shit.

i haven't played the other games and i don't like dark souls enough to be a fanboy. luciana's just annoying with her parroted elitism and tbh i'm already predisposed to disliking her, so when she comes in and shits up my thread with irrelevant opinions i react more vituperatively than is called for.

you can literally get the second picture right now by farming the Knights on the wall

The other two you can buy after you kill the original owner and they're a long way off

Stop telling him factually wrong things.

No, it isn't. At all.
