The Pro controller fight sticks for the Wii-mote are terrible. The face buttons get stuck so easily

Wii or Wii-U?

Both can run GC controller setups and most third party controllers are modded GC ones anyway

ZeRo lost to a Lucario.

Why?

Day is super chill, we've hung out a few times. He's a florida player from Gainesville.
As for beating ZeRo, well they had an altercation on twitter before their match so he probably really wanted to win more than usual.

I see.

Well both are in top 24 losers, so I want to see if that's still in effect towards each other.

Besides most players finally catching up to ZeRo's level and possible mindgames leading up to the match, I think Smash 4 has the least polarized cast out of the games since 64. I sincerely think that every character except Olimar, Zelda, Gannondorf, King Dedede and Jigglypuff is capable of winning a major (provided their mains have an absolute beast of a player) unless people start finding crazy shit that makes someone super OP again or we see Ryu players optimize his play style crazy fast.

Olimar can win. Just have to piss everyone off with your playstyle

Players like Void can probably pressure an Olimar enough that he can't pull out any pikmin for a few minutes at a time without being interrupted by a combo starter. That impossible to edgeguard fuck would struggle to get a hit in.

actually nvm, Dabuz's Olimar is capable of taking a tourney on his day

So 2 things:

Firstly, I'm starting our weekly tournaments here in my hometown tomorrow. I'll be T.Oing and also competing in Smash 4 doubles and singles. No stream yet but hopefully by the second or third tournament we'll have one set up. Pretty excited to get this going, and get our local players to a high enough level to compete with the other cities nearby.

Secondly, I traveled to a monthly in tallahassee like I usually do, and I was playing just awful. I've had smashfests for like 3 days leading up to the tournament and I played phenomenally. But then I get there and it looked as if I hadn't touched the game in a month. So many incorrect inputs. And it sucks because they know I'm a good player and hype me up, but these last 2 tournaments I've bustered hard. I've gone from losing early in winners but plowing through losers, to doing ok in winners but losing my first losers set.

Any tips on consistency? I typically have coffee at these events which really keep me focused and energized, I didn't have anything but water at this most recent tournament.

Tbh maybe pick a less surgical secondary. It's not Melee but Fox is still pretty technical and needs a lot of precision. The best player in my area always plays Marth for his first few matches of SSBM, just so he can throw out safe/rewarding moves in neutral and still take his time finding his groove for when he wants to switch to Spacies/the other top/high tiers.

If you used Cloud or Mario as a warmup character it might help you ease into playing a bit better than going full 20XX from the get go, but it varies from person to person. You are one of the best smashers here so I'm surprised you haven't pinpointed the problem yourself yet.

I know most 20XX spacies are pretty keen on their hand stretches so maybe take some time each day just to do that.

I've experimented with different results. Generally energy drinks and coffee had me play amazing, but I don't want to have to rely on stuff like that to keep my drive going. Probably why I didnt want to accept the role they played. There are days where im clearly playing bad with fox, on those i need to switch to a secondary or simply not enter the tourney, but I always do. But yeah, generally when singles starts I'm not warmed up until my 3rd set, but now I'm on stream from my very first set, so I feel the need to deliver a great performance every time.

spend time practicing every day

do 50 L-cancels in a row without fail

do 50 short-hops in a row without fail

do 50 short-hop/full-hop rotations in a row without fail

that sort of thing

and also play a lot

Basically just practice tbh

I find labbing unfun so I learned all the stuff like wavedashing, shield dropping and L-cancelling in the middle of my matches. It helps a lot to have somebody good to fight against; getting bodied is the fastest and best way to getting gud imo.

Have a practice with somebody like Sheik and see which moves combo into each other and how far off stage you can go to get an edge guard, or stick with ICs and learn how to force your opponent into approaching with an unsafe move so you can open up with their devastating grab game. ICs also have a good wavedash for spacing moves, so you don't need to shield/spot dodge every approach.

Thoughts?

A few of these placings look way off tbh; I think Sheik, Villager, Mega Man and Yoshi should be in A, DK, Peach and Pit/Dark Pit should be in High tier, Pac Man, Palutena, DHD, Link and Samus should be upper mid tier and Charizard should be Low at worst.

tfw bottom tier has almost been the same characters since launch

Diddy: I think Sheik is the best because she has a better MU spread, but this spot isn't bad either since I think Diddy is right behind her

Cloud: honestly, too high. He gets great results, but has never won a major unlike characters below him.

Ryu: put him behind Bayonetta, he's a great character, but has never won a major unlike Bayonetta and Mewtwo (whom he's under), and has a few hard MUs

Pikachu: too high, this character hardly gets any results

Marth: switch him with Ness

Yoshi: too high, mediocre results and MU spread

(Dark) Pit: I think they should be at the bottom of C tier, has gotten great results from the likes of Earth and Kuro

DK: just a little too high, he hasn't really done anything in a while and has meh MU spread; below Luigi

Lucas: put him where Pit is

Lucina: put her in front of Yoshi, she's literally just Marth without a tipper, but consistent killing power. She's not bad at all

G&W: I think he's underrated and should be on the lower-end of mid tier, but I have no basis other than personal experience

Little Mac: too low, his decent results and scary kill power are too much to be a low tier; under Ike

Wii Fit Trainer: results from John Numbers and Waveguider warrant her a spot on the lower-end of mid tier or top of low
