I'm registering for City of Melee 5. Probs gonna get bodied again but I'll link the stream on the day just in case anyway.

There's this one Roy main who always attends and uses the massive Keyboard controller. Hope I get to play him because he's really good and I want to do a low tier battle.

I neither fear, nor despise.
Personally? Well I think if I fight a really solid luigi or rosalina I'm going to have a lot of trouble. Meta Knight also gives me some issues since I'm unfamiliar with him, and I always try to punish unpunishable things. Bayo is stressful as fuck, and I fought the best player in tally who uses bayo in top 16. Took him to game 3, but I did a shit ton of grabs, because otherwise I was getting witch timed.
How do you deal with Corrins? I find myself getting caught by the side-B whenever I try to jump or do anything out of shield and dying to tippers at 20%. I can combo them for days as Sheik but that just gives them free rage with few assured kill setups. That Up-B hitbox is impossible to edgeguard and you're at KO% all the time thanks to the presence of that awful counter.

Well firstly Fox completely negates Corrin's neutral b. For me firstly it's racking up damage, so I fight corrin like any other sword character. It's mainly a bait and punish sort of deal, if I'm not punishing then I'm staying just out of their range. I don't try edgeguarding corrin once they do their recovery move, otherwise I'll get stage spiked. But Fox is bullshit so if I get them positioned for it, I'll go for a fast fall fair footstool and take their stock real quick.

A few tips on that counter: positioning. If they are on the top platform of battlefield, if a counter were to hit you....will it kill you? Then go for a grab. Same with juggling, if I overextend one upair they can slip that counter in and kill me.

Stay aware of corrin's fsmash range. When they do side b I tend to instead of contesting the attack, catch their landing once they pick a direction to go to.

So just try and play slippery af? Sounds good to me.

Oh I know, I've just been super brain dead lately and I haven't been paying attention to stuff like spacing and baiting in neutral.

Mental game is super hard to work on.

I got 9th at ECC AND Coffee Boyz 8. holy fuck I'm cursed.

Was relying on the coffee shop the tourney is at to be open like it always is to give me a good pick-me-up, but this was the first time it was ever closed during a tourney : ((((((((((((((

My first set of the tourney was ass, was very nervous, then after that I was solid. At both of these tourneys I've been eliminated by either the #1 tally player, or their #2 ranked player. Fuck my shit up fam.

was that godlike sdi or a glitch?
Glitch.

Although I have seen some fucking whack ass DI where a Rest didn't kill on Yoshi's Story (Keep in mind Melee rest normally kills at 0 on all legal stages)

My thoughts on my play lately
I need to stop relying on niche tech stuff to win neutral and start learning the mindgames. I think that's where a lot of Smashers (particularly Melee Space Animal mains) go wrong. The main difference between them and Hax is he learned to be super technical during/after building up a reasonable understanding of Neutral game, mixup counting, etc, not before.

I've started reading into the main options my friends take, but I'm having a hard time baiting them out. It's pretty frustrating losing to a button mashing Samus and a Marth main who thinks he's good because he Fsmashes everywhere but I'm honestly lost as to how I'm meant to improve on this. I only get to work on it once a week and I feel like my options keep getting stuffed when I try to play away from autopilot. It's marginally better when I switch to Sheik but then I feel like I won't be learning as much (Especially since I rely on my friends getting caught out by Aerial Needles/Autocancel Fair > Something as approaches on shield/Shino Stalls, IE: Technical shit), and I really think I should be doing better with Falcon anyway.

Anywho, just some food for thought. Hopefully I can implement this new mindset as fast as possible so I stop getting bodied by people I think I really should be dominating.

Well GG, didn't win a single match in pools but I'm pretty optimistic about future tournaments. Much better in my mental game and I could possibly make it out of pools if I perform maintenance sessions for my basic movement, on top of continuing to prep my mental game.

Getting back into 64 to try learning better neutral game and technical discipline.

Really missing the C-stick. I keep accidentally double jumping whenever I go for a Uair and fast fall/falling Uairs are pretty much impossible to me when I have a jump.

I hope the next Smash's combat system has some elements from 64 and Melee. Nothing against 4 but coming back to it after a few months of just Melee just feels like I'm playing a version of Smash with a Hangover (and just last year Sheik and Falcon were way too fast for me to control in 4 too). I played a few games on Brawl the other week and it was 50 times worse.

Not going to one, but just asking.
Fist bump before the start of game 1, hand shake at the end of the set.

I normally try to introduce myself to as many people as possible. If the TO is acting like a jerk, don't worry they're just doing their job to keep things moving. Tourney nerves will become a big factor, and the only way to get rid of them is to expose yourself to it as often as possible.

Thanks for the advice. Always great to show sportsmanship.

I will usually get nerves and fear on a last stock, last hit situation, while the set is tied and it's during the tie-breaker, esp. in losers bracket.
