I'm thinking about getting into the pokemon games. Where should I start?

What's the benefit of giving money away to people who did nothing to produce it?
They're providing it. A flea market that sells games ought to get compensation for providing vintage games.

They're pretty easy to find, actually, but whatever. Regardless of who gets the money, an emulator cannot emulate the experience of playing a genuine, physical copy of a game.

They're hard (expensive) to get new, but I agree. Having the GameBoy in your hand is the best experience.

Though, once you get used to EV-training your 'Mons at 500% speed, it's hard to go back to regular gameplay.

Correct.

But at least e-books are legal.

See, that's just ruining the game at that point.

Why even play if you can just guarantee success by speeding up the game (which is cheating)? Fuck that shit.

Was I unclear?

By playing at 500%, you are cheating. You can't do that in the original games and that's not how they were intended to be played. It nullifies the entire point of the game, too. If you can just guarantee that your team is perfect, why even fucking play? You've already won. But instead of earning it, and grinding it out like everyone else, you're gonna cheat.

Sorry, I think that's really stupid.

How does that guarantee anything...?

You still need to pick the right moves, breed the right Pokemon, face the right opponents...

It's not like it matters because those 'Mons can't be transferred.

Get an emulator for your phone and get fire red/leaf green

But really you can play in any order, if you're okay with going back a gen and having more outdated mechanics.

If you're EV training while cheating (which you've conveniently ignored--you can't defend the fact that it's cheating), what the fuck do you do? Moderate yourself? At some point, you're gonna become overleveled, and you'll just be able to steamroll over everyone before you even reach Pewter fucking City.

Unless you literally tell yourself, "Okay, I'm gonna stop cheating here, because I think I'm getting too overleveled."
If you're gonna cheat, fucking cheat. Go all the way. Get a level 100 Charizard before the game even fucking begins.

Why wouldn't you if you're just gonna cheat anyway?

nobody EV trains before they've beaten the elite 4...
I don't see how speeding up the game would make you any more over leveled than in if you just decided to train all that time. If you want to be over leveled you can be over leveled, emulator or no

But it actually takes a lot more effort without it.

I have no respect for cheating. At anything. Ever.

On Amazon, you can get FireRed for $30 and Crystal for $25. They aren't that expensive, especially in comparison to other Nintendo games.

I didn't ignore anything, I concede that it's cheating. I just don't care because it doesn't affect anyone.

I only EV train after beating the game, so. . .

But hypothetically, it's still a grind to EV train during the story. It's just less of a grind. You know when you're training for the next gym, and you're just itching to do it, but you say, "No, I gotta get all my 'Mons to [this] level beforehand."? It's like that, just faster. No one wants to spend 5 hours grinding when they can spend 20 minutes instead.

You've admitted to doing Nuzlockes before, right? Same thing. You set limits and standards for yourself, too.

Quote

Because it's not fun, that's why.

To be honest, the cheating part doesn't matter because it doesn't affect anyone; it's of no consequence. The better argument for you to lean on would be the "it's stealing" shtick but even then, it's not worth the time.

Only point in buying new is for collectors. Earthbound is over $600 new, for example, whereas a used copy is a sixth of the price. If you just plan on getting the game for playing, there is literally nothing wrong with used copies.

The only thing I ever do is nuzlockes, and no, it most certainly is NOT the same thing. At all.

What you're doing is cheating to make the game easier.
I'm setting limitations to make the game harder, without cheating.

There are no cheats involved in nuzlocke playthroughs.

An emulator is a program used to virtually reproduce a console or system.

Basically it's a way to play an older system on your PC, but emulation overall is just when a system tricks a program into thinking that it's a PS2 for example. You download ISO's for the game online, and you can start reproducing the experience of that system fully with games.

The one in question here would be using a program, which there are a few ones for gameboy, to basically play Pokemon without having to buy a gameboy or the game. Great way to play the older games seems the dev probably won't be getting the money anymore really.

It's virtual. It's a program that you download (illegally, I'll say again). It'll pop up on your computer screen as a window.

If you have any ROMs downloaded (which are easy enough to find), you use the emulator to load them up.

He doesn't have a point. He says, "Yes, I'm a cheater, I don't care, it doesn't hurt anyone, I like to have fun, I'm a dumbfuck egoistic human." That's all he said. What am I supposed to say to that.
