He's saying "We should keep bodies normal because of the negative effects of not doing that that I have been able to demonstrate."
not quite what i'm saying

this "normal bodies" thing is kind of something i want to dissociate from my logic entirely, because there is no such thing as a "normal body"

some women in real life have large breasts--it's just the way it works, and if anything, keeping well-endowed women out of video games would conversely be less realistic than having them

are there ways to have curvaceous, voluptuous women in video games without having them be sexualized?
yes, i'm sure of it--i've just... never seen it happen before

it's a very difficult thing to do--finding the balance between acceptability and gratuitousness

Quiet can go burn in hell. They did a fanservice character in MGS3 in the name of Eva, and they actually had a reason behind it and she had a strong character. Her fanservice was what she used as the typical spy thing, but it didn't define her character entirely.

Quiet is literally just a walking T&A show for no reason other than "she needs sun", BUT THAT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE BECAUSE THAT WAS THE SAME REASON IN MGS3 AND IT WAS AN OLD MAN IN A GHILLIE SUIT!

Excuse me, I'm full of dog poison
Quiet is a perfect of hyper sexualizing a character for no reason. She wasn't a strong character at all and the lame ass excuse of her breathing through her skin is insulting.

Yup. Just not sure what the difference between Quiet and, say, Bayonetta or Zero Suit Samus is. Why condemn the look of one but not the other?

Bayonetta chose her clothing, she is meant to be an expression of sexual freedom. She plays by her own rules and does things because she wants to. There is no man in the game that she's pining after and her sexuality is not meant to further the plot.

She is who she chooses to be and is doing things for herself, by herself.

Quiet was forced into wearing revealing clothing, it wasn't a choice. She has no ambitions of her own and is used to further the plot.

Spoiler
Plus I find it kind of weird she falls in love with the dude who set her on fire.

I just don't watch it because I don't care enough to watch that.

What's so complicated about that?
A good movie is ruined because you're okay with shitty representations. Good going.
that would mean the water gun iteration takes value away from the original, which it doesn't.

Yeah, I'm sure the developers consulted a fictional character about her choice of clothing before they designed her.

So women can't wear tank tops?

Why was the creative decision for Lara to be in a tank top made? The answer the that question is what fuels my complaint with her design.

because that's what someone who does the things she does wears

Yeah, I'm sure that was the reason behind make her wear a tank-top.

Uncharted actually handles this kind of stuff really well. Chloe is no less a physical badass than Lara, yet she wears a t-shirt and jeans.

The devs took the opportunity to put her in a tank-top because it marginally makes her a more attractive character. Bottom line.

Well I mean, it is. It's small, but it still is.

Low-cut shirts exist to accentuate tits -- that's it.

Okay well I have some pictures of female leads (or supporting lead, whatever) that don't rely on fanservice, just because I said I would. So here ya go (it's quite a bit, so sorry)

Yeah, I'm sure the developers consulted a fictional character about her choice of clothing before they designed her.

A female designed her based on herself, what she found attractive and empowering.

So yes the female character chose her own clothing.

I was thinking of posting both but I figured one sufficed since it's just turtles. Besies, Sam does a better job as Chloe in Uncharted, and Noelle is obsessed with Sam so no thanks.

okay, allow me to evaluate these one by one

Ripley: Great example. Agreed.
Zoey: Another good example. Valve has a great track record. I'd throw in Chell, too, but she doesn't talk.
Yuna: Ehhh...
Elizabeth: EHHHHHH...
Zelda: ...Sure. I really don't like the pink-pretty-princess trope, but she beats the hell out of Peach.
Asari: I don't know shit about Mass Effect, but to my understanding, there's sex scenes with the female characters. Why.
Evie: I also do not know who this is, really, but I'll just give you the benefit of the doubt.
Claire: Sure.
Femshep: Can you really count this?
Elena: Sure.
Maxine: Again, don't know who this is, but I'll take your word for it, I suppose.
Anya: This character reeks of "Look guys! WOMEN CAN BE BADASS TOO!" It comes off shallow and insincere.
Jill: Ummmm... sure.
Faith: Good example.
Terra: Not a great outfit.

That's 9/16--and the thing is, for every strong female character you can name, I can name, like, twenty strong male characters. So they exist--there's just not enough. Not enough to make me happy, at least.

The sex scenes barely show anything, and it's more movie tier. It's just as much fanservice for Shepard as well. It's not a big deal.

and no shit strong male characters exist, but there are fan serviced males too. I'm just saying that looking at it through one lens is wrong, and while they did fanservice some of those characters, THE ENTIRE POINT WAS THAT THE CHARACTERS ACTUALLY HAVE A CHARACTER AND PERSONALITY THAT OVERCOMES ANY OF THEIR DAMN LOOKS!

Regardless of if you like the outfits or not, that part is true.

And yeah you can count Fem Shep considering Jennifer Hale does a great job voice acting her. Just because you can create a character, that shouldn't take away from them.

Well, I did ask for female characters that are both strong and aren't designed to be physically attractive...

But she can also be male, so to me, she's effectively genderless.

Are low-cut shirts using a different fabric? Are they woven differently? Do they allow for more freedom of movement? No to all.

I see no reason why you are saying that. Being female or male does effect the game (romance, a few lines I believe) and with different articulation they can behave pretty distinctly. If you are saying that being female needs to cause a larger effect to the the story you admit that realistic world building usually makes males typical to combat, which since video games are most usually about combat, male characters are more common because they fit the context better.
