You will find out who you are not a thousand times, before you ever discover who you are. I hope you find peace in yourself and learn to love instead of hate.
it's really bugging me, i used to be great. always at the top of leader boards with little deaths and high amount of kills. now im fucking useless.

It's either something you have or not isn't?

The angel agreed to trade a set of white wings for the head of another demon. Overjoyed, the demon killed one of his own and plucked the head right off its still-warm body.

The angel then led the demon to heaven, where he underwent centuries of the cruelest tortures imaginable. Finally, the pain was so great that he lost consciousness - at which point his dark wings turned the promised shade of white.
you take it eeeeeasy

thats my playstyle

the way i learned to play halo well was by playing with people who were WAY better than me all the time. i basically got adopted by the best player on bungie.net and learned everything i know from the people i met through him. eventually your mechanical skill will improve and you will be able to learn macro strategy from good players as well.

you can never improve by playing with and against terrible players.

It's all about reflexes and tactical choices. Sometimes you just get fucked by walking into the wrong hallway or throwing a frag when you should've thrown a flashbang. Shit like that. You just have to think fast and act fast.

for starters, sure. map control and your ability to react to enemy movements cross-map is a much more significant factor though

What FPS, in particular?

I noticed a considerable difference at Halo when I:
1: switched to Bumper Jumper (not having to take your thumb off the right stick to jump makes a pretty big difference)
2: practiced my aim and strafing by playing modes like Octagon
3: played with people who are/were better than me

At other games, I normally get better by watching how other people play, and compare it to myself.  Generally speaking, you're going to be really good if you're not a predictable player.  In games like Battlefield, this pretty talented guy called LevelCap talks about how his reaction time and aim aren't top notch, but he's very good at moving in ways that people wouldn't expect.

there was a bnet user named shadowzkiller who used to make really really good commentary videos for halo 3 that said something similar in one of his videos that i cant find for the lfie of me. something like "im not the best at 1v1 mechanics, but i can move and duck around well, and that surprises people and takes them off guard and makes me seem a lot better than i really am"

Goodness gracious, great balls of lightning!
You just need to play a lot. When I first started playing FPS games online like Halo and CoD, I was terribad and would go extremely negative every game.

Over time I got better at handling situations, finding the right playstyles for myself, learned the maps/spawns, played with people better than me to help improve my skills and adapt to new playstyles, and watched videos online of players playing the games too.

Doing that helped me improve a whole lot whether it was Halo or CoD. Now I was the one who would be on top of the lobby every game and I make sure I am all the time.

If you need a better shot in Halo: aim by strafing. Try not to use right stick as much.

We always say to fight fire, you must use fire. This is wrong. Fighting fire with fire will leave scars and a new flame will rise. We must instead use water. It is the opposite of fire, it extinguishes the fire, it cools, it refreshes, it heals. We are made up of 70% water, we are not made up of 70% fire. Please practice what we truly are

I've become a lot weaker in FPS for a couple of reason.. Trying to get out of that genre and into something more thought provoking that would get me thinking smarter. I'm getting older and no matter how much I keep up, I'm going to get slower and slower and get wrecked by younger people, its inevitable. Another reason is when I use to be near the top or at the top, there was a lot of pressure and stress to maintain it or I would feel embarrassed, ashamed or pride destroyed for failing to be the prime example of an awesome player.

Even the best players will have a game or two where they feel like a noob and it was one of the worst feelings to experience. That is what makes gaming NOT fun and turns it into a chore.
