One thing that doesn't make sense. At the end of the Blue Team mission Infinity control says they've already dispatched a team to Meridian to "handle" Cortana. How the fuck do they even know she's there? Unless they were lying and just said it literally after Chief said he's going there.

You do know why they got Halsey, right?

The main problem with Halo 5 is that there's too much going on in a short amount of time, and nothing is given a chance to settle before you're whisked away to something else.

We have three storylines; Sangheili Civil War, Hunting Blue Team and Blue Team's stuff. The first two mesh fairly well with each other, but Blue Team feels largely separate from all that.

Personally, I think the game would have been better if it had been set entirely from the perspective of Osiris (same amount of missions, but all to do with Osiris). If we count Meridian as one big Blue Team-length mission and same for Sanghelios,  then we have about 8 fairly long missions. I think this would be time enough to somewhat adequetly cover the hunt for blue team and the Civil War, and have the two teams meet up at the very end. Because I think having two storylines would mean a lot more time spent on important things.

I mean, Jul 'Mdama is dead. We've had two books, an entire comic series, Halo 4 and Spartan Ops trying to kill this guy and he just gets offed in the first mission. In the same cutscene that he's introduced. No buildup and no time to dwell on the fact that literally the most powerful non-Swords Sangheili is dead.

Let's also not forget that colossal damn cliffhanger where Earth falls completely under Cortana's control in about 30 seconds.

This ain't even Covenant invasion or Flood tier. She can access just about any communications technology that exists and shut down the entire planet in one shot.

There's gonna be some fucking serious magic out of a hat bologna to even try and fight that.

Seems like 343 took too big of a jump there.

To be fair, she has about 90% of the AI's/technology on her side, which is like our smartphones and technology.  If they shut down at once, lots of people would be freaking the fuck out.

Oh and the Guardian Ex Machina can send out a sonic pulse that is also a giant EMP I guess...which is an asspull, considering Osiris should've lost their HUDs or communications when the pulses went off in their vicinity.

343 is probably jumping the gun because they wanted something big, and they knew the hype was real.  So we're all left with nothing but questions and disappointment.

You're mistaking things again. Two kinds of pulses.

The ones it gives off when it activates, which are seismic based. They're more like a concussive blast wave, which is why it knocked ships out of the air and leveled sections of the planet.

And the one it fired at Earth in orbit, an EMP pulse.

But what else can it do?  We're told that a single one can patrol a system but all we've seen it do is flap its arms around.  What kind of armament does it possess?

And thanks for correcting that, I just didn't know if the EMP and Concussive blasts worked in unison or if they were just separate attacks.  It just bothers me that we'll have to wait another few years (or to read any source material that may reveal more about the Guardians) to find out what else the titular vehicles can do.

This

Other than the complete disconnect from all the damn good promotial material, this is definitely the biggest disappointment. We don't realy get to see what the Guardians really do other than reenact the E3 Reveal trailer and go into slip space.

They could have at least had one glass a city, destroy a fleet, throw a damn rock at a guy, literally anything to demonstrate it's power and make the damn tagline Guardians mean something.

No buildup and no time to dwell on the fact that literally the most powerful non-Swords Sangheili is dead.

And his army wasn't in disarray when he died, it was still super organized. Almost took over Vadam Keep

Eh. His army has been on the verge for a while now. It was beginning to break a while ago. But yeah, the remnants will now go join other groups and continue fighting.

To be fair it did mess up Meridian station...kind of...I don't think we ever hear any fallout other than that one woman on the comm line that didn't want to die.  But as far as I know, it was only that section of the planet that was affected in any way.

Sali 'Nyon

He's in the current story arc. He got imprisoned on Breath of Annihiliation but got free in the crash, so he's doing whatever he's doing right now.

With an EMP attack that can fuck up entire planets, that's pretty good insurance. Seem to be able to mess with gravity, too.

Forerunner infantry had weapons that could destroy continents. What do you think a 1.4km long war machine is gonna do?

I want to see it take a nice chunk out of the planet.

Remember the Forerunner machines that munched up large pieces of Earth?  Something like that times 10.

It's just a big EMP. We've seen the forerunners do more with less.

My guess is that the E3 2013 trailer set o  the Ark is actually going to happen in Halo 6, and that's when we find Mendicant Bias. In that trailer, John has the exact same visor cracks as he does after REQing locke.

Plus, the UNSC has bases on the Ark and the portal is functional again thanks to Olympia Vale's team in 2555.

Yeah, those things.

I think the humans would be scared shitless if Cortana just fired a small percentage of the Guardians' hidden weaponry on a big city if the Retriever and New Phoenix (I believe that's what the Didact targeted in Halo 4) disasters are still fresh in their minds.

Yeah. Guardians are bigger than most UNSC ships ( a frigate is about 300m), they be fucking up everything.

Yes...because she said Cortana was behind the attacks. But I don't think I heard anywhere how or why the UNSC thinks Cortana is on Meridian in the game. So after Chief said that's his destination, the UNSC must have learned that way.

Also, a few other questions:

What was that planet at the end with the MAC stations and the Infinity? We see Cortana's Guardian rising up (or just a Guardian). It can be Sanghelios because there appear to be Forerunner style markings on the planet. It can't be Genesis because why would the Infinity bring MAC platforms there...

And how did Chief, Locke, and crew make it to Sanghelios so fast from Genesis at the end of the game?

It's obviously Earth. It's just cities being shut down.

Ok, so why did Infinity jump back to Earth? Maybe they thought that was Cortana's most likely target? So many parallels to Halo 2, just like how everyone wondered how Arbiter and crew made it from Delta Halo to Earth so quickly. So a Guardian is floating above Earth now, great...that should be interesting in the next game.

I don't buy it. The Librarian specific said that her "Eventuality" would lead to Cortana, specifically. On top of that, even if you dumb down the specifications that the Librarian planted, it's still completely ridiculous. She plans out the super-solider program 100,000 years before it happens? All that modification, all that training, and leading to what? Her gene song, or whatever the hell that thing was called, in a specific human being. Plus, how could anybody expect me to believe she realized, "Oh, these soldiers will be lonely and probably have some stability issues, let me plan out the creation of companion AI to help cope with their social ineptness." Any sort of planning that far ahead is unbelievable.

Which is only made possible by your over analyzing. She didn't plan out a super soldier program. And she didn't plan out a specific AI.

Think of it like this. Requiem was the key to set everything in motion. All she needed was a soldier who was capable of surviving to find her, and to be paired up with an Ancilla, like almost all Forerunner soldiers used to. Everything else in between could have happened any other way.

And as for names and saying that they were supposed to be here, you notice how she addresses all of them by name? She's not alive at this point. Just a forerunner machine or imprint. And we already know how quickly Forerunner machines can access information. Saying their names to them is a safety mechanism to reassure them and reinforce things.
