8th gen uses off the shelf hardware. Fact
This is irrelevant.
That's actually the entire point he is arguing to you, sooo...
No, he's saying the exact opposite of that.

Spoiler
This gen isn't anything like last gen.
This gen uses off the shelf hardware and uses the same architecture that PCs have been using for a long time. Developers already knew how to utilise the hardware to its max (or extremely close to it) since day 1.

Last gen used non-standard hardware and non-standard architectures. Developers had to learn how to utilise the hardware for each console because they were also drastically different from each other instead of just PCs.
They were still figuring things out long into the 7th gen's lifespan.
What I'm saying is that there's no tangible difference between development for non-standard last-gen console hardware and OTS current-gen hardware. Where it came from is irrelevant, and there's zero precedence to believe otherwise. Even if he was right, most devs such as 343i haven't even used OTS hardware before, so their lack of experience with OTS hardware has fuck-all to do with a consoles' limitations.

You have zero evidence to support your laughable beliefs that we've somehow reached the apex of console hardware before most devs have even had a go at it yet.
Any PC game from about 2 to 3 years ago if I can guesstimate.
How? Even when the last-gen consoles released, we had PC games going beyond those consoles' presumed boundaries. That didn't mean 360 or PS3 game performance had reached their apex before they even left the gate. It wasn't the first time that that happened, and it won't be the last.

Constant 60fps is not even close to worth it to remove split-screen. At least they stated they'd rethink it for Halo 6, but still.
these other niggas don't know how much fun it is to splitscren with your SO but I feel you flee

I edited my post to say about 4 or 5 years ago. I'm not arguing the games won't look better on next gen. They'll be better optimized and improved in some areas (at the sacrifice of others.), but it won't have the same leap that 360/PS3 did, and that was because it didn't use off the shelf, a few years old PC parts. For example, there will be very few games that will look better than The Witcher 3 for next gen consoles. 2 or 3 years from now, it will still be roughly the same.

I can understand why too, considering if they tried the same thing then as they did now, the cost for making them would be way too high and we'd get consoles ticking around $600 again I think. That, and consoles just aren't for gaming anymore.

stop editing your post >.>
All the other arguing aside, the beginning point was the current gen consoles use old and outdated hardware (see post below for age), and thus, we will never see the games evolve like they did from 2005 to 2014 on 360/PS3.
Such a thing has never happened in the history of console gaming. There's no reason to believe that'll change aside from sensationalistic, wild speculation.

You two can also try to argue without it devolving into a stupid shitfes with petty insults, as that would make both your stances seem like a bunch of babble. Keep it civil.

You need to keep in mind that no other consoles have used a couple years old PC parts with a few tweaks here and there to better optimize it (I don't think... Not 100% on this). Thus, we can form some solid basis for our speculation. It becomes more factual at that point.

For example, you see things like Crysis 2 and 3 run at max settings on PC (those are basically just benchmark games anyway), and those are from 2011 and 2013 respectively. PS4/Xbone games are just ahead of Crysis 2, and obviously nowhere near close to Crysis 3's looks. The only game I'd argue would even be in the same mention to C3, is the Killzone Shadowfall exclusive game (cross platform would be worse looking), and that's being generous.

You could use Battlefield 4 as another comparison I guess

Yeah, I think you're right about that. Like, consoles used to have more... competent graphical capabilities. They were at least average in terms of hardware. The Xbone and PS4 seem relatively underpowered compared to their predecessors in their respective eras.

We'll have to wait and see what the future holds, I guess. Sony and MS didn't give themselves much breathing room with their hardware this gen. I won't put it past game developers to impress, though.

"flaming nipple chops"-Your host, the man they call Ghost.

To say, 'nothing is true', is to realize that the foundations of society are fragile, and that we must be the shepherds of our own civilization. To say, 'everything is permitted', is to understand that we are the architects of our actions, and that we must live with their consequences, whether glorious or tragic.
The textures went backwards too.

Fuck, why did Reach look so good?

I expect we'll see some pretty games. I just don't expect amazing textures or that shine effect on concrete when it rains. Once you see that rain effect in amazing effect in games, and amazing looking textures in general, you become so aware of how bad they look. It's why Fallout 4 looks so ugly. It's on a 2002 engine and the textures are just muddy.

At the end of the day though, I much prefer an artistic style on things, rather than one going for the realistic/gritty feel.

My guess for textures being so low is the 60fps they were going for.

Fuck, why did Reach look so good?

Ikr?  H3 and HR Bungie knew how to make bomb ass level textures.  I think their forerunner designs blow 343'a out of the water.

They also knew how to properly light things, though I'd argue Halo 3 did this the best. I think they actually did the lighting for each individual MP map, instead of just rendering it or whatever the term is. It shows too. I can still see Halo 3 screenshots and be impressed at the artstyle and lighting.

hey
Halo 3 was also like 540p and even Reach didn't quite hit 720p, even if they were super pretty games

I was not fully aware of this when I ordered the game, even though I know remember people mentioning it. Will still play and probably enjoy but damn. This is quite disappointing. I suppose there's no way they're still going to add it in now, as that's likely impossible?
Finally. No more people on my team using 3 controllers and only using one.

Halo 3 is just a great looking game, if I were to pick a Halo game to take screenshots in it'd be that.

I played hundreds of hours of Halo and thousands of matches and can't recall a single situation where a person had 3 non-playing guests signed in. All of this "guests ruin multiplayer" is really exaggerated.

Guests were usually really bad and equated to walking free kills. That being said I'd prefer a stable 30fps with split screen over 1080p 60fps. That's a meme that needs to die for consoles. Those machines simply aren't powerful enough to output that kind of thing without sacrifices.
