I remember the time when AngryBrute's name popped on an AngryJoe review for little bit. I forgot which video it was.

If you know, you know.
Just watched a GeneralKidd halo video for the first time in a decade. How are his videos still so badly edited and terrible on the spot commentary. Like the mythbusting stuff is cool but what the fuck man.
I actually told him to write some notes down (a lite script), but he is still free-styling it.

Blue Screen – Sean has done some work to bring back to the Halo 2 network transition screen (the bluescreen that pops up saying “Connecting to game…” and when there’s a wait for a player to join or when a host migration occurs). Turns out that original code was ‘commented out’ during MCC development which resulted in H2 network games just having black screens or just a scoreboard which isn’t informative for players (nor historically correct!).
Wow I forgot that was a thing in Halo 2. Got so used to the black screen in MCC I guess. Looks like some people at 343 really do want to fix this abomination of a game when they go after the little things like this.

Honestly I feel bad for the individual artists and programmers and animators there, who I'm sure do genuinely want to build the best game they can and are probably the ones who actually see all the shit flung about the newer entries online, especially the ones who probably signed up to work at 343 back in 2008-2011 when the series was at its most popular. Just a shame that unless you're one of the leads, you pretty much get no say in anything and just have to do the work you're given.

What kills me is that the actual concept at 343i are genuinely great but by the time it ends up actualy in the games it's been corrupted into shit like Seeker. I'd really like to know what is going on behind the scenes that this happens.

I think people are just afraid to speak up. Imagine roasting your lead artist after he worked 30 hours to make the Seeker helmet. It can be intimidating.

That's not how it works. Most of the arnour is contracted to third party studios, not done in-house.

They do it because hiring an additional large amount of character artists is unfeasible.

Considering how 70%+ of the armor in H5 is shit, they can probably do it all internally.

They have the tools and assets. 70% of armor is shit. Is 343i capable of producing 30% of H5s armor internally? They will reuse the assets for protagonists in H6. Art isn't exactly in high demand in later dev stages, just polish? So can they not make 15 / 20 good armors?

There's a difference between an inherently bad design and bad/ inefficient/ low quality artwork produced. Additionally I have no idea but I'd assume not, considering almost all (if not all) of the renders have been from third party studio artstation profiles - consider how many characters for marines, covenant, prometheans, their variants and the thousands of smaller assets are needed in the main games, the multiplayer armour on top of that is a massive workload.. They won't reuse the assets because they'll be updating them in accordance with new graphical capabilities on new hardware and better efficiency and knowledge of the engine.

The second bit I underlined really shows you don't know how art production for games works. 3D art is one of the final pieces added into the game, as adding the art to any given environment/ character/ vehicle/ weapon means that no more changes can be made without redoing the art from scratch. It's also not possible to simply just reassign artists as art roles are specialised, with character, environment, weapon, vehicle and technical artists all having their own individual jobs. And obviously they can't "just" make 15-20 """good""" armours because the way that the higher-ups have implemented microtransactions requires a massive amount of bloat armour to pad out the system to prevent people getting what they actually want, not to mention that cutting down from the variety seen even in Halo Reach (by far the most popular of the armour systems) doesn't look good in an industry focused on bigger, more and better.

The fault for the current horrible armour system is solely the fault of the people insisting on hundreds of sets to pad out loot boxes, and the people responsible for the current internal style guide in regards to concepts and designs. It's hardly a concept artist's fault that being asked to draw up 20+ unique designs means he's probably running out of ideas, nor is the it the fault of the 3D artist who is given a reference concept and a deadline for implementation. The same artists who made Seeker are the ones who also modelled the Noble Team armours and Reach helmets that came in the DLC that look perfectly fine.

seriously though what asset reuse are you going to have in an armour system where all the armour is designed to be a unique design

Thanks for the clarification. The asset re-use I mentioned is mainly Blue team and Osiris. I don't think they will change their look much. MC's suit was the template for him in H5. I also doubt 343 just asked a bunch of contractors to make armor without giving them some sketches or at least reviewing the third-party sketches and choosing the ones they liked best. But then again - 343 did release MCC in the state that it was in, so perhaps they don't do any monitoring / reviews and just push any old shit onto the release build?
Unlikely that they will write a new engine for Halo 6, maybe just some extra beef for X1X? Loot boxes were definitely a big part in diluting the quality, forcing a quota on the art team but why rush things when you can just push content out post-release? Instead they gave us 30+ armors, but only 2 playlists and no forge.

They'll stil likely re-model the armour and make slight changes to the character designs as the story requires.

Also yeah, the sketches and concept art are done in house but not the 3D art and implementation. Additionally, you don't need to write an entirely new engine to make things look prettier. While they will make improvements to the back end (prior to H5, the Blam! Engine couldn't support new content additions without requiring you to re-download every single asset in the game again which is why we never got new weapons and vehicles), that's not how graphical improvements are made. It's just a case that experience working with the tools means you can squeeze some extra processing power out and thus have more leeway to work with in polycounts, lighting and texturing.

As for the last, it's simple. One brings in money, the other doesn't. If you really think the high ups at 343/ MS actually care about giving you the best game they can then you're deluded. 343 has nothing to gain financially by making a feature-rich game as more people playing custom games is less people playing Warzone, so they'll always prioritise reqs (well maybe not now seeing how the industry has turned on them in the past few months). The people who fund games development generally don't have the interests of the people playing the games at heart, and the individual developers (who are usually just people who want to make great games they would want to play) who hate having to make this stuff don't get a say in the matter. The industry is so competitive that generally you can get easily replaced, so nobody wants to risk their career.

Microsoft says NO: https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/news/eldewrito-community-content
I mean, they're acting pretty reasonable. They even say in the post that they've learnt there's a massive group of people who want a classic halo for PC and they want to work in the future to see what they can do with that. Hell, the general impression I've been given is that 343 is cool with the project and they're onpy doing this because they/ microsoft have to - it does breach the terms of use microsoft have had for years.

Anyone who didn't expect this is a retard tbh

Yeah, sounds like they are going to hire them and give this an official release.

Or they pull a 360 and just sit on the license and not let anyone use it.

The angel agreed to trade a set of white wings for the head of another demon. Overjoyed, the demon killed one of his own and plucked the head right off its still-warm body.

The angel then led the demon to heaven, where he underwent centuries of the cruelest tortures imaginable. Finally, the pain was so great that he lost consciousness - at which point his dark wings turned the promised shade of white.
Problem is they use a code package called MS23 which is MS's code. Worst case scenario Eldewrito has to stop distributing it but they cant go after torrents so the game wont go away. Its also peer to peer so there are servers as long as people host.
