Who the fuck thought setting snipers on that map to respawn regardless of if it's already on the map or not was a good idea? Who though setting it so there's no time limit was a good idea?

That's because all the people who suck at Halo went on to Waypoint and kicked and screamed about how they got BTFO every time due to their incompetence at defending their Elephant. The Elephant meta was horrid anyways. Red team couldn't lose if they parked the Elephant properly on the Albatross.

It's still highly perculiar and irregular seeing as they saw each other as family at that point. But it still makes more sense than two augmented spartans going SpartainKen 15 on each other suddenly

There's been some changes made my 343i nothing TOO major (mostly but i'll get to ranting about that)

The training stuff was establised all the way back before Halo 2 in 'Halo Fall of Reach' with some minor snippets in 'The Flood' and 'First Strike' with some bigger additions comming in Halsey's Jounral. All that was BUNGiE era stuff, though BUNGiE never liked it because they wanted Chief to be a self insert brick kirito of duty.

Here's the abridged history of the Spartan 2 program
Spartan II's were proposed because of a research project called the Carver findings which determined that if action wasn't taken immediately, humanity would be stuck in an endless interplanetary war. ONI-chan had Dr Halsey, who helped in the findings direct the program. The plan was to find 300 six-year old children based on genetic screening and train them to be augmented supersoldiers. The number was eventually cut down to 75, and Halsey added two things to the program; Mjolnir, and flash cloning the kids they abducted to cover up their disapearance. Due to the nature of flash cloning however they all died shortly after the switch was made.

The Spartans were trained for six years under Chief Mendez, their drill instructor and the AI Serena who taught them just about everything else; enough that those who never got deployed into combat became things like astrophysicists and important figures in ONI. Training involved things like being left in the woods in the winter and having to find their way base, or even live fire training exercises against the biggest sociopaths the UNSC could throw at them.

At 14 years old the Spartans underwent augmentation, and about half of them either did not survive or were severely crippled. The augmentations were not perfected yet but ONI had forced Halsey to go through with it anyway. The Sparans who died were given a funeral to give the rest closure but were in reality placed in cryo in hopes that they could once day be resuscitated.

After augmentation the Spartans were sent on raids against the insurrectionists, with massive sucess untll the covenant showed up. It's at this point they get ttheir first set of Mjolnir armor. John and the original Blue Team (Kelly and Sam) assault a covenant ship and Sam becomes the first Spartan 2 to die in combat.

After that things stop being as simple. The numbers of Spartan 2's has been fudged beyond all combrehension by BUNGiVision and then 343i going ahead with resuscitating a few of the 'dead' Spartans, and introducing more Reach survivors does not help the confusion either.

For the most part though 343i has been doing a decent job at clearing stuff up. But one thing I cannot forgive them for is fucking with the way Halsey treated the Spartans. It was established that Halsey really did genuinely care about them and feel bad for them, but Kilo Five went and tried to turn her into a cartoon mad scientist who did shit Dr Halsey would never do to them like lying to them.

 Karren Traviss should never be allowed to write anything again.

aside from all this canoe lore stuff, i'm trying to run halo 4 legendary under 3 hours now. so far it's been okay, forerunner (the level where you first meet the prometheans, you might have forgotten which that one was cuz i sure as hell forget halo 4's missions) gave me a lot of trouble cuz of an out-of-map trick but i was eventually able to get 3-4min under par

Is it weird to say Reach is one of, if not my favourite game in the series but quite possibly one of the worst in the series? That big reach discussion a couple days back got me thinking about it.

Like, Reach easily has my favourite art direction - everything just looks great (particularly the vehicles and armours) and soundtrack (The military style really did work, especially the remixes of other OST songs) and they all work together really well to create a really atmospheric game second only probably to ODST.  I love the more military and grounded feel of everything from the way cutscene cameras are always mounted on something to look like a real camera to the way Auntie Dot does the mission briefings. The customs and forge were also really great and I spent way too long in those modes, and Invasion was neat and hasn't really had a good successor yet. Firefight and custom gametypes was neat, too, outside those stupid Arcade modes in the playlists

However, it definitely hasn't aged well. A lot of the experimental mechanics like bloom just don't work very well or feel good anymore (as someone who was never really bothered by it) and the level design for MP was pretty atrocious. Although the forge was great I always really wished they'd have kept the forge mode on Reach too with human themed stuff rather than the grey metal of the Forerunners that isn't relevant to the game itself. Where 2 and 3 still hold up pretty well, Reach feels kind of weird to play. It was also the game that started the paper vehicles trend. Noble could have also used more development, though I never really found any of the main game characters all that interesting so it's not a huge issue for me. I mean, they never really annoyed me and I'd definitely be more interested in a novel about their history than one of Osiris or some shit.

So yeah. I love the game because of how it establishes a grounded and gritty military scifi tone with the planet being invaded, but at the same time it really hasn't aged well in the gameplay department.

The multiplayer in Reach was doomed when they said that the maps are ripped from the campaign.

Halo games prior all had multiplayer maps that were based on the campaign, but weren't direct rips of them. Maps like Headlong, Terminal, and Turf for example are all based off of Outskirts and Metropolis from the campaign and weren't copy/pasted from it. That's how you do multiplayer maps, keep the theme you're going for the same but have a different experiences.

Wish they did a similar video like this with the Halo 3 map packs. I miss this Bungie, before they hired that retard Luke Smith.
