Well they took one of the main things I loved about the series and shot it out back.

I'm done.
what's that? Silent protagonist?
A lot of the element of making a character I feel is taken away for Fallout 4. The talking protag hurts it a lot I think, as in a damn lot. Sure you could turn the character voice off but the dialogue is still gonna be limited because he can talk.

However a talking protag isn't the only issue, what also I feel hurts is the pre war back story, just having a wife and a kid. That kinda limits it somewhat, though not an extreme amount.

The angel agreed to trade a set of white wings for the head of another demon. Overjoyed, the demon killed one of his own and plucked the head right off its still-warm body.

The angel then led the demon to heaven, where he underwent centuries of the cruelest tortures imaginable. Finally, the pain was so great that he lost consciousness - at which point his dark wings turned the promised shade of white.

What's right with it? The only cool-looking thing about it was weapon customization.

Oh, the talking. Well, to me, the voice acting is just really dull and it appears to slow the game down a whole lot.
Plus, it's just kind of awkward watching two people have a dumb conversation in shot-reverse-shot.
Yep.

But come on, no game world is more immersive than Fallout's.
he said right in the conference that you can have conversations in first person...

And I'm sure you can just read the dialog and skip to the next line just like you could do for all the voices npc's just like fallout 3/NV/oblivion/skyrim

So being able to hear your character ruins the game? Alright then. I'm not super happy about it but I'm still excited for the game.
It's a big deal. The great thing about Fallout 3/NV was that you weren't just controlling the wanderer, you were the wanderer.

It will also make dialogue scenes really tedious, which is a shame, because they were extemely enjoyable in the previous games

This will really hurt the immersion if there's no option to turn it off.

That doesn't mean the protagonist will be silent. If the dialogue choices are as clipped as they showed, then I don't think it's likely.

There needs to be the original box of text options.

It's blown out of proportion, but one of the major companions you can have in Fallout 3 is a dog. Some people are just attached.

Personally, I preferred the super mutant with a gatling laser.

It doesn't even need a perk combo, they just didn't account for companion HP increases when they added Broken Steel and its bonus 10 levels to the cap. So Dogmeat and Fawkes specifically gain ridiculous amounts of HP each time you level up because it throws the scaling off.

I saw no skill tree, and I see "Science rank 1", which makes me think they're pulling a skyrim with the skill tree. Aka: Ruining the very foundation that has been there since Fallout 1. That and stripping it more. Again. Just like Oblivion to Skyrim.

Also, Howard admitted they were scared to give the protag voice and offered some things on the interview.

Over 13,000 recorded lines over the course of two years

And they didn't want it to restrict their writing in terms of choices

Still, I wonder if he means 13,000 total (probably, though male and female both say the same shit), or for each person. Also want to remind everyone Fallout 3 and NV also had like 3 (mostly 2) options for a reaction to what a character said, so it is a bit more varied. Just ugly in how it looks since consoles need buttons everywhere. They striped the UI on that.

Regardless, I am a hopeful lass. We'll see how it turns out, but as a Fallout nerd, I was at first very against it because I feel voiced dialogue restricts your choices (See Dragon Age 1 to 2), and it restricts who you're going to role play as specifically. Someone brought up Shepard from Mass Effect, but really you're either super nice or a dick in the blackest of whitest ways. Fallout is different.

Regardless, what Howard said kinda eased my tension somewhat, but Howard IS also known to exaggerate shit... (see Skyrim), so yeah... Other than that and that Rank 1 thing you see above me, I love the rest of it.

If they remove the skill tree though I'm fucking done. Voice acting is one thing since it varies from person to person, but removing the very foundation of the Fallout character series? No thank you.
