Fair enough. I can understand that. In some ways, I feel that the Forerunner Saga was too much information, too fast.

I guess part of the thing originally was tht the Forerunners were a drip feed of information, and I suppose a lot of people had their own ideas and speculations of how the species worked.

I suppose when the info you're given smashes the ideas you have had, it doesn't feel too good.

Still, at least 343 haven't had to out-right retcon anything. They even managed to fix Halo Reach's mess and the Forerunner saga interferes very little, if any, with the preestablished lore.

I'm still unsure about that

It feels like they wanted him in Halo 4 and needed to come up with an excuse to keep him being the one who activated the array canon

Personally, I feel they could have pulled it off and kept the end result (HAving a Didact activate the rings then go into stasis on Requiem or something)

it's going to be fun when the other didact comes back into the fold. It was hard enough trying to explain to many people why one forerunner was alive, let alone a forerunner of the same name and role but not the same guy, and a bunch of other ones who have been mentioned in three books and that's it.

Ur-Didact and Iso-Didact. The "Ur" prefix means "original" in German, "Iso" is a Greek prefix meaning "equal"

The Ur-Didact is the one in Halo 4. The Iso-Didact is an imprint of the Ur Didact's consciousness and memories onto a Forerunner named Bornstellar-Makes-Eternal-Lasting.

As we already know, The Ur-Didact went mad and was left imprisoned for the next 100,000 years because of his madness-induced actions, and the Iso-Didact/Bornstellar took command of the Warrior Servants near the end of the Forerunner-Flood war.
Iso-Didact/Bornstellar is also the one who activated the Halo Array.

The first Didact was the one we saw in Halo 4. He was the one who went to war with ancient humans and destroyed their civilisation, before going into a Cryptum for a long time on Earth. Eventually, he was woken by a young forerunner of the name Bornstellar-Makes-Eternal-Lasting, and basically kidnapped Bornstellar and his two human companions (One of whom ended up being put into Guilty Spark).

In the Forerunner-Flood war, the original Didact, Shadow-Of-Sundered-Star (The Ur-Didact) would get captured by the Primordial for fifty years, and was effectively MIA. So Bornstellar had the Didact's memories and mind implanted onto his and became the commander of the Forerunner military - the Iso-Didact.

The Ur-Didact got mind fucked by a Gravemind and went slightly mad at the end, eventually forcing the Librarian to put him in a Cryptum inside a shield world. The plan was that the domain would heal his mind, but that got destroyed when the Iso-Didact fired the array and 100 millenia of isolation only served to turn the Forerunner even more insane.

And that's why he's not very nice in Halo 4. Iso-Didact liked humans. Ur despises them.
