Any particular reason you're going with a 1080 rather than a Radeon 480 or something else around $300?

You don't really wanna gimp out on the GPU.

Do you have good cooling for your other components? The reason I ask is because if you decide to go with the dual fans then the heat is obviously going to go into the case, which may affect any overclocking you may want to achieve.

I would suggest a 1070 or something at this this point, assuming you're not watercooling, as my friend stated the heat of the 1080 really fucked up his GPU after a while. They apparently run pretty hot, even with the tri-fan..

Still making my own computer myself. All I need left is the power supply. I've been putting it together piece by piece and it almost being finished makes me feel so excited.

Thats a mint build. Dont see anything wrong with it.

But we gotta talk peripherals, I suggest, and it'll be really simple, speakers, mouse, keyboard  and headset. All Logitech

Any pair of Logitech speakers will take you a long way, depending what setup you want I personally recommend : z506 Surround speakers
Great surround sound speakers for a reasonable price, easy to set up and awesome quality. As well as kickass bass.

Mouse: g600 MMO Mouse. Now Im not sure if you're an MMO gamer but the additional 12 side buttons and top duel buttons come in handy even in most other games, Overwatch is good to hot key useful abilities to the mouse instead of keyboard, RTS games are good to have certain actions all sorted in the one place, and most RPGs even required all 12 keys for abilities.  Really is a handy mouse.
As well as the ability to change the devices light display to just about anything.

Keyboard : g910 Orion Spectrum
Holy shit has a keyboard ever felt so good to type with. It is pricey but the build is pretty awesome, mechanical keys are sweet to press and makes gaming feel super responsive and as well by standard, can be changed into any colour under the sun. Lastly it also includes a smartphone dock, which can be hooked up to Logitchs software to project PC and certain video game information.

Headset: Now, after buying a wireless headset I cant recommend it anymore then anyone could the g933 Artemis Wireless Headset produces excellent sound quality as well as vocal input. The mic can be easily flipped up into the headset if you dont want it in your face, which disables the mic if you ever want to online game and not talk to people. When its close to empty in charge you can still use it whilst connected to its USB charger, which takes about an hour then you can wireless game again.

Why use wireless? Well its convenient,  never stand up and give yourself whiplash, walk around the house whilst playing music, which you have about a 10m radius from the PC and an all round awesome device. Usually when you think wireless you think a loss of quality, well thats not the case here, but that also reflects in its price. Lastly it doesnt just turn off when charge is low, it gives a rough 10 minute warning so you can finish whatever you're doing without hassle.

Now if you dont like wireless theres the g633 Artemis which for $50 less is the same awesome headset, just without the wireless benefits (or disadvantages).

Both also come with the stock feature to be any bloody colour under the sun.

- Should I go with an Asus Z170-A or -P for the motherboard?

https://www.asus.com/microsite/best-100-series-motherboards/compare/index_en.html
Here's a good site to compare both.

As you can see the P variant only has 1 PCIE 3.0 slot as well as 2 fewer SATA slots. If you decide to add some more peripherals in the future than this might be a problem. Personally, I would go with the A variant.

Thanks, I am leaning towards the A myself.

What do you guys think about the PSU? Is 650W enough / too much? And are other brands good choices too? I've been recommended the Ante High Current Gamer series which are quite a bit cheaper than the EVGA G2 ones. Still highly rated in the PSU tier list but not gold or fully modular.
In regards to the power supply do you plan on at some point having SLI? If not, then 650W is enough, however if you eventually decide to then a 750W would give you a little more leg room.

Thanks for the suggestions. I already have a few peripherals though.

As for speakers, I have two older model logitechs too. The X-140's my dad once handed me down. They're nothing special (were like 50 USD I think) but they get the job done. I don't care much about speakers so they're perfect for casual use.

I'm set in the mouse department too. I've got the amazing Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum, which is one of the best selling and performing mice there is. I don't really play any MMO's, so I'm the biggest fan of mice with too many buttons. They're rarely ever used for FPS and twitchy games, I believe.

Headset I've got ready as well. I've got Audiophile Sennheiser HD 595's for music and multimedia, and for games I've got the great Sennheiser 360 Pro which I managed to get for like $90 at a sale.

Keyboard however, I still need to get. So I'm open to all suggestions in that field.

this is all better hardware than anything hes suggested, g502 has one of the best sensors on the market right now, and all headsets (apart from hyperx clouds and sennheisers own gaming headsets) are mediocre compared to headphones you could get for the same price

if you dont already have a mechanical keyboard the g910 is okay but its engineered more towards "gaming", cherry switches have more variety ranging from switches that feel better for "gaming" and some that feel better for typing, id recommend you take a look at different mechanical switches to see what you might like, better yet purchase a cherry mx test kit to see which keys you like the feel of the most, i personally value my keyboard more for typing than i do playing games

the g910 is a solid keyboard, but consider other switches too - ive had this blue switch keyboard for 6 years and its as good as the day it was new, and i love typing on it

"gamer" switches on the other hand dont feel right to me

that was a problem specifically with EVGA manufacturing iirc, otherwise ive noticed no widespread issue of 1080s going bad from heat, most GPUs, even lower end ones operate around the same temperatures under load

i would only ever get seasonic, corsair, or EVGA PSUs (or silverstone for their specific cases),so  i would stick with your choice, those three brands consistently have the best performance in delivering the power theyre rated for as well as being efficient (power not wasted anywhere it shouldnt be, i.e heat), anything less than 80 plus shouldnt be considered

not saying antec will blow up your pc or anything but psu problems can fry your other parts, some particularly bad no-name brands wouldnt be able to deliver 40% of the power they were rated for after about a year of use

for a case i would recommend the NZXT source series, they look great and theyre super cheap for mid towers, im not sure about the dimensions but you probably wouldnt have a problem with things like the gpu not fitting in, though you might want to look at some of the variants, iirc they had some distinction between models with front panel usb3 ports and just usb2s

for case fans i would recommend bequiet, dumb name but theyre performant and live up to it

i would get the i7 7700k if what you say is true

i have the same motherboard, its perfectly fine, any real difference wouldnt be seen outside of overclocking and a different chipset

gpus are all the same as long as its not some no name brand, MSI is very reputable

what youre really paying for with a different brand is the heatsink on top of it and the level of customer support, often EVGA cards are more expensive, but they also offer probably the best support youll get if there are ever any problems with it, that said that premium is pretty much just for the peace of mind; your money will only really come into play should the card actually come into any issues

if you say bought a card from KFA2, ASUS or MSI, that isnt to say theyll have the worst customer support known to man (maybe Palit might be bad), but theyll still deal with RMAs and it will generally be a painless procedure providing youre still within warranty

in short the price you pay for one brand over another is the price you pay for support and how pretty the card looks outside of the computer

i wont say its a bad idea to get an EVGA card because their support is some of the best ive seen, but its upto you to decide whether or not that peace of mind is worth it

i just got the cheapest double slot cooler 1060 with 6gb i could find (KFA2), thats just me; ive yet to deal with their support and i hope i wont have to either
