hey
Play however you want, that's sorta the point of RPGs

If you wanna play as yourself, then go for it

If you wanna play as the complete opposite of you, then go for that too

Some good quotes in this game.

"The smart man knows a bandage only hides his wounds."

I always actively avoid <Lie.> options. I always try to choose the closest thing that I would have said in that conversation.

Am I missing the point of RPGs?
Nah, I rarely chose lie also. This playthrough I'm doing something different besides absolutely good or evil. It's more of a neutral good character. For example, I was taking care of some thugs that were messing with a girls daughter, and I broke into his room in the hotel to get a note to exploit him. He comes to me right as I'm about to leave and confronts me, but says maybe she wants to go with these people.

Then I basically say

"aren't you afraid I'll blow up your plans?"

'And how exactly are you going to do that?'

"Like this."

And pull out a pistol and shoot him in the head, along with two other thugs he had.

Basically, the point is that my character will fall into the role of good guy, but how I go about it is that I won't always follow some rules, and honestly might be ruthless across people who have little to no redemption about them. It makes it certainly much more interesting, and makes it so I don't fall into that boring "good vs evil" thing like Mass Effect (though I mixed that up too for the best results).

It's more black and white in Fallout 3 though as opposed to NV.

I sunk so many hours into that god damn game and I don't ever remember a quote like that.

That's what I love about Bethesda titles. So much content.

Yeah, I'm loving the content so far, too.

Anyway, the quote is inscribed on medicine bobbleheads.

Interesting.

So how are you finding the game so far, Verby? Sounds to me like despite it's downfalls (gunplay), you're overall enjoying the tiny details in it.

Interesting.

However, playing the game as "myself" is interesting, because I can never truly know how I'd respond to some of these things, you know? I'd like to think I'm a "lawful good" at heart--but would I say the things I'm saying in the game if it were all real? I dunno. Again, I'd like to think so, so that's why I choose the option. But perhaps that's not honest. Hmm. I guess it's a lot closer than being a completely selfish cunt, which I know I wouldn't ever be.

All I know is, it's not easy being good. I'm sure half the fun of the game is being a complete evil bastard, and... I'm not really about that life. Virtually or otherwise.

Meh, as long as you fit into your desired role playing character and actually THINK/react like they do in situations, I think you'll get the most fun out of it. Going purely good and purely evil for the sake of good and evil is honestly really really boring to me.

👍

I don't wanna say too much about my actual thoughts yet, 'cause I don't wanna nullify the review, but yeah, I'm likin' it so far. I'm sure the combat will vastly improve once I find myself a half-decent weapon.

Question: What exactly happens when you die? I'd like to know so that I'm not angry when it happens.

I assume you just go back to the last place you saved/auto-saved, losing all your progress down to that point.

Yep. Your autosave always comes first. But something important to remember is to do manual saves fairly often because a lot of time autosaves can have a big delay between them, in a lot of cases, setting you really far back.
Also said autosave could land you in a location entrance that a glitch or an unfortunate event has initiated. That's why having multiple save files is advisable.

As luci says Verb. You do you and have fun with it.

I can almost guarantee you there's going to be a few quests in the game that make you pause and think about what you pick. The karma system can be a little arbitrarily black and white in some spots, I admit. You might pick something that you think is the best option and then get slapped with negative karma.

Just roll with it Verb.

And have fun with the dialogue. Fallout games have always been good for dialogue. Whether interesting, funny, or thought inducing.

Oh ya. I'll share this with you Verb just as an example of how thorough Bethesda likes to be. You remember when you went to go take the G.O.A.T test?

If you distributed your SPECIAL points around, and left yourself with 4 or lower into Intelligence, when you go to take the GOAT you'll instead be escorted into the class room by a teacher, being called a "special needs child."

Good thing I distributed everything evenly.

>"5% chance of addiction"

lol fuck that

I like how I get to be straight-edge even in this game.

Like, I love how the game doesn't tell you that they're addictive--you're just supposed to know that drugs are bad.
That's brilliant.

Alcohol lowers your intelligence. That's so awesome. It's like they're trying to tell us something.

His eyebrows sparkling, his white beard hangs down to his chest. The thatched mats, spread outside his chise, spread softly, his splendid attos. He polishes, cross-legged, his makiri, with his eyes completely absorbed.

He is Ainu.

The god of Ainu Mosir, Ae-Oine Kamuy, descendant of Okiku-Rumi, He perishes, a living corpse. The summers day, the white sunlight, unabrushed, ends simply through his breath alone.
Addiction also means withdraw if you go without for too long. Combined with Stat penalties and everything that are only negated if you feed the addiction.

Oh, wow. They really went all out, huh? That's really cool.

All right, so I've learned to only pick up useless objects if they have a high value. Like comic books.
I can't deal with picking up everything I see anymore. lol

Yep. A low intelligence playthrough in 3 or New Vegas can be hilarious because often times, normal quests or events come up with bonus dialogue to match your dull wits.

It's even worse in Fallout 1 and 2

A low intelligence character in those games is incapable of understanding the story, what people are saying or even completing most side quests because no one wants to talk to someone so dumb

Because I will never find out by myself: What happens under withdrawal?... Is it just stat debuffs all around, or?

Yeah, basically just stat debuffs and stuff, that persist until you either get it cured or take more drugs

Withdrawl stages of severity also increase the farther along you go I believe.

I also try to avoid radioactive substances, too. Like Nuka Cola. But I have a 10% rad resistance, so I guess that's my threshold, but what happens when you cross over that threshold?

Nah, those are fine if you need health on the spot, and they give you caps. You'll get plenty of rad away anyway, not drinking 99 of them still wouldn't do enough to really hurt you.

And you get slight penalties as you cross certain points in rads, until you finally die.
