I dunno what the DLC is. I'm playing the GOTY edition, so I guess I have it all.
They're:
Broken Steel
Operation Anchorage
The Pit
Point Lookout
Mothership Zeta
Oh, yeah, a couple of prompts let me know about some of those.

Yeah, I'll do them.

I'd recommend not doing any of them until you're at least level 16.

Also, hunting rifle = ezpz.

Seriously, that gun is just OP as heck, but in a good way when you're in a tight spot (super mutants).

I love you, son.
Yeah good point. I hope Fallout 4 has flinching but I don't think so.
Pretty sure it does.

Goodness gracious, great balls of lightning!
I remember my Fallout 3 playthrough I was like the Jesus Christ of the Wasteland

But yeah, Luciana is right. Don't do any of the DLC until you're a really high level and have tons of ammo and shit. If you do any of the DLC now you'll get shrekt so bad its not even funny.

You can see enemies flinching a bit at some points.

Do the side quests in the order you get them in, makes sure you don't miss all that much.

Verb, here's the premise of the DLCs and shit.

Broken Steel - directly follows the main story so you have to complete the main quests first
Mothership Zeta - Aliens
Point Lookout - Spooky scary swamps (easily the hardest dlc tied with broken steel)
Operation Anchorage - Fight in the US army before the nukes fall
The Pitt -Go to Pittsburgh. This is the one you should do first.

Otherwise...

You can actually skip half the MQ if you go to a certain location at the start of the game. Not saying how, but there's nothing stopping you from going directly to where your dad is, or to the person who knows where he is.

Also, there's not many side quests in the game. I believe there's actually an achievement/trophy for every quest in the game so use those as guide for how many you need to do.

There's about 11 towns in the game (not including V101).

Also make sure to explore the vaults. They contain some of the most interesting aspects of Fallout within them

It's best if Verb discovers this stuff for himself rather than you guys telling him where everything interesting is.

It's not really advice in the sense that it's me telling you what you should do, but I'll spoiler it anyway. Hell, you probably know this little trick to making hacking easier anyway.
Spoiler
When you have 1 attempt left, just exit the terminal then log back in. You get all the attempts again.

Oh ya. A word of advice Verb. If you ever come across a weapon that looks like any old weapon but it has a strange name, you've discovered a legendary weapon.

Most legendary weapons out-damage their default counterparts and pack a punch. Very rarely, they might not, but they'll have a special unique trait to them that might make up for it.

Another word of advice. You can sell them. Make sure you don't sell them accidentally because you'll probably like their stopping power.

And lastly, you can repair legendary weapons with their common counterparts. And VICE VERSA. So be careful if you decide to repair a normal weapon and end up destroying the legendary one.

the one true God is Doctor Doom and we should all be worshiping him.
I don't know how anyone could just do the main quest alone. I kept getting distracted since everything else in the game was infinitely more interesting.

Do a lot of sidequests, the game is really really huge. You can do the main quest but I find an early aspect of it difficult at first when you go in this one building with these guys to get a dish.

If I'm not here, I'm doing photography. Or I'm asleep. Or in lockdown. One of those three, anyway.

The current titlebar/avatar setup is just normal.
If you only do the main questline and all the main DLC questlines, it won't take very long, maybe on par with HL2 if a little longer. On the other hand, doing all the side quests takes an awful long time, and most aren't even discoverable unless you go out of your way to find them. The main sidequests are found along the main questline if you talk to the right people or happen across a settlement on the way to a quest marker, so I'd recommend doing 8-9 out of the first ones you come across.

One warning, beware of wandering around too early and avoiding the main quests the first time, like I did. Ended up skipping 2 main quests by accident, and that will majorly shorten your overall game time.

I'll spoiler any specific advice so you can choose to read at will.
GNR quest related advice
- If you find some numbers on any of the museum exhibit terminals, DON'T RANDOMLY PRESS THEM OR IT LOCKS YOU OUT OF A SIDEQUEST THAT REWARDS (arguably) THE BEST GUN IN THE GAME. It does require you to either be good at maths and spot patterns, or do it the lazy way and Fallout.Wiki it.

Question: What exactly happens when you die? I'd like to know so that I'm not angry when it happens.

I assume you just go back to the last place you saved/auto-saved, losing all your progress down to that point.

Don't trust the auto save system, save frequently

And yeah, you just go back to your last save point

Yep. Your autosave always comes first. But something important to remember is to do manual saves fairly often because a lot of time autosaves can have a big delay between them, in a lot of cases, setting you really far back.

His eyebrows sparkling, his white beard hangs down to his chest. The thatched mats, spread outside his chise, spread softly, his splendid attos. He polishes, cross-legged, his makiri, with his eyes completely absorbed.

He is Ainu.

The god of Ainu Mosir, Ae-Oine Kamuy, descendant of Okiku-Rumi, He perishes, a living corpse. The summers day, the white sunlight, unabrushed, ends simply through his breath alone.

You stare at your dead body for a few seconds, then you reload to the last save/auto-save. Save frequently!

I always actively avoid <Lie.> options. I always try to choose the closest thing that I would have said in that conversation.

Am I missing the point of RPGs?
