If you want to get more of the same bonus, sure
I was just wondering, because to my understanding, you can only get so many skills, right? Because there's a level cap, or something. Just trying to make sure I pick the best option.

Entomologist ended up being great not only for those Fire Ants, but it helps against Radscorpions, too (and I just started meeting Giant ones, too--fun).

Yeah, the level cap's 20, unless you have the DLC, which it's 30

So you gotta be strategic with what ones you pick, but if your character's focusing on those stats, then choosing two of the same perk can't hurt

I was gonna get Commando/Sniper, but I noticed I have access to Action Boy.

An additional 25 Action Points?... Am I reading that right?

Action Points or AP is what VATS uses

Having more means you can have more shots at one time using it

yeah yeah i know but

Isn't that like. Super OP?...

Wait, I'm thinking of it wrong--I thought one Action Point = one shot.
I don't think it's like that.

I'll take Commando instead, then.

that would be ridiculous

Title change: Picking Up the Trail

All right, so you all know how it goes here. Dad's dead. Project Purity had a run-in with the Enclave, and after refusing to hand over the project, James irradiated the inner rotunda (which was locked from the inside), killing the colonel(?) and his cronies, prompting Dr. Li and I to high-tail it out of there.

We escaped to the Citadel from the sewers of the facility. What an annoying area--those Enclave bastards like to camp in high places--I came in with about fifty Stimpaks, and I left with about twenty. Garbage.

Dr. Li was being a crotch the whole time, too--bitching whenever I told her to stay put so I could, you know, scout the area? And prevent her and the other two guys we brought along from fucking dying? I get that it was a high-stress situation and all, but c'mon.

Now we're at the Citadel--Brotherhood of Steel headquarters, apparently. I'm once again reminded of why these guys are elitist assholes, but as long as their little radar blips are green, they're cool with me.

Third or fourth strongest enemy I can think of. Short of Behemoths, Overlords and Reavers. The latter two plus scorpion being addrd by Broken Steel to account for increased level cap.

I can wear Power Armors now. I've never actually tried them on before, but I had no idea that you actually needed to get a perk from one of the dudes in the Citadel in order to even wear them first.

The Brotherhood is officially on my side now, I guess. After I escaped Project Purity and the Enclave, Dr. Li, Garza, a third scientist (forgot his name), and myself reached the Citadel, the main headquarters of the Brotherhood of Steel. They sympathize with my circumstances, and they're willing to help me search for what I need to continue my dad's good work.

I learned that I need to find a G.E.C.K., located somewhere in Vault... 87, I think it was. I remember reading about this device long ago when I escaped Vault 101. The Overseer wrote in his journals that they would not be receiving one, for some reason. I'd have to assume that's because Vault 101 was supposed to be a permanent containment vault--never to open, so receiving a G.E.C.K. would be pointless.

Anyway, I can't reach Vault 87 the normal way--by trekking through the wastes. The area surrounding the vault has become too irradiated for safe-treading, so I have to find another way around. That probably means I'll be facing more Feral Ghouls. Ugh.

I tried locating Dr. Li and the others, just to check up on them (they were obviously pretty shaken up after what happened at Project Purity), but I couldn't quite find them. They're probably somewhere, I dunno.

Later, I met Star Paladin Cross. She offered to join my "party", and I had no reason to decline. She has no health bar--at least, not that I can see. This gives me the impression that our partnership will be temporary. She wields a strong energy weapon, and a strange hammer-looking melee weapon. Before I stopped playing, I let my curiosity get the best of me, and I wandered off from my Megaton home to let Cross give a demonstration of her capabilities.

She has pretty quick reactions. She killed a dog about thirty meters away from me, before I even had a chance to react. She also decimated a group of TC Mercs we spotted while heading back--that melee weapon she has is pretty brutal.

I think I'll take a break from playing today, but we'll see what happens.

I probably shouldn't be playing this late, but I'm going to anyway. #YOLO and such.

Heading off to Lamplight Caverns with Cross. As I mentioned earlier, I can't just head straight into Vault 87, because the area surrounding the vault is too highly irradiated, so I have to find another way around.

I sincerely hope that the primary purpose of Cross is not to aid sucky players. She doesn't seem to have a health bar, which tells me that she can't die--which is cool and all, except for the fact that she's obviously going to make the rest of the game a lot easier if she's immortal. In any case, I'll keep her with me for the duration of this quest.

I keep forgetting that the Chinese Assault Rifle is actually stronger than the regular one, for some reason. I made the switch, but I'm trying to think of some advantages the regular AR might have over the Chinese model. Perhaps the older one has a higher rate-of-fire? If so, I'll probably take it back. The Chinese one also looks a bit cooler.

Out of a cheap, bizarre sense of pride, I feel slightly guilty for using a non-American weapon, but whatever who gives a shit. It's probably the sleep deprivation. I had to correct three or four mistakes in this post already.

I've decided to put all side quests on hold, indefinitely.

I want this game beat by 2016, so I want to focus on the main quests from here on out.

Right. I knew there had to be something about it.

I'll still take it and see how it treats me. It was the first automatic weapon I've used, after all.

That's funny, though. I like that little jab.

Make sure to pick up all the Chinese ARs you find so you can keep repairing the one you use. The Chinese AR is a good weapon to use for the level you're at.

I have absolutely no qualms with selling chems anymore. The amount of caps I'm losing by not picking that shit up is just starting to get immense, and I feel so stupid about it. It's a fucking wasteland--people are gonna do what they're gonna do. My principles don't really matter.

I'm still not gonna use any, but this is what the wasteland has turned me into.

First a sadistic psychopath in Tranquility Lane--now a greedy drug dealer. Oh, the humanity.

Cross and I made it to Little Lamplight. It's a large cave system inhabited by a bevy of little kids. When the kids come of age, they're booted out of the society, and they head off to Big Town (which explains... quite a bit, actually). I witnessed one of the kids, Sticky, getting kicked out for having turned eighteen, and he asked me to escort him to Big Town, to which I obliged.

...And got absolutely nothing for it <_<

I'm assuming that's because I wasn't supposed to find Big Town as early as I did--Sticky was supposed to introduce me to it. Ah well--that's the thing about free-roaming, I guess. You get wonky shit when you do stuff out of sequence.

Vault 87 was obstructed by a path called Murder Pass, which was filled with Super Mutants. Cross made herself a valuable ally during this entire mission--I learned that she does indeed have a health bar, so I ended up giving her half of my Stimpaks so she could keep herself alive. And she did.

When I first reached Murder Pass, however, something strange happened.

That's precisely where the Picking Up the Trail quest ended--so I expected to see Rescue From Paradise next on the screen. Instead, I got the next quest in line--Finding the Garden of Eden. I was rather confused.

Looking it up, I learned that I actually skipped Rescue From Paradise by winning the speech challenge at the very beginning of Little Lamplight, before the little kid at the gate lets you pass. I only had a 40%~ chance of convincing him to let me through, but I managed--and this ended up bypassing what would have been a mandatory quest.

Well, that's kinda stupid, isn't it?... Why would I want to just skip a quest like that out of sheer luck?
Now I want to go back and do that quest--or maybe I should just leave it. I dunno. Kinda fucked up situation.

Vault 87. It certainly wasn't as scary as Vault 106, but the terrible vibes you get from seeing all the gory imagery still kinda gets to you after awhile. Every single room had bodily remains strewn about--rotting skeletons and bloody entrails just all over the fucking place. I had to find a G.E.C.K. in this mess.

Worst yet was the rooms with the FEV experiments--Vault 87 conducted experiments on Vault Dwellers that turned them into monstrous, agendered Centaurs that were physically powerful, but mentally tortured to the point where most of them died shortly after testing--their remains could be seen in the test chambers, with their faces stricken with agony. One of them was still alive. There was even a guy named Sid locked up in a chamber. I freed him, only to discover that he went utterly insane, and started attacking Cross. He was easy to take care of, considering he wasn't wearing armor.

I also freed a friendly Super Mutant called Fawkes. The mission to save him was optional--but it felt mandatory, simply because I'm not sure how I would've been able to retrieve the G.E.C.K. without him. It was hidden in a room where the radiation levels were off the charts--I found an anti-rad suit in a storage room, but I'm not even sure if that would've helped me in the end. I guess there would've been no other way.

Anyway, I retrieved the G.E.C.K., said farewell to Fawkes, and was ready to kiss Vault 87 goodbye.

Of course, we all know what happens here.

As soon as you make it towards the exit, there's an explosion, followed by a white flash--and you're on the ground. When you come to, you see the face of Colonel Autumn, and you notice that you're flanked by two Enclave soldiers. You pass out once again, and now you're locked up in some prison, being interrogated by Autumn.

He demanded that I tell him the password to activate the water purifier, but of course, I wouldn't tell him. Fuck this guy.

Suddenly, I hear a familiar voice over the intercom--it's none other than the PotUS, John Henry Eden. He tells Autumn to fuck off, and that he wishes to speak with me. Autumn begrudgingly listens, and after picking a bit of hassle with the guards, I exited my cell and made my way towards Eden's location. He proceeds to tell all of the Enclave to leave me alone.

Cross was nowhere to be found. I can't help but wonder what happened to her. Might be dead. That would be a shame.

Suddenly, I hear Autumn's voice over the intercom.
He commands the soldiers to disregard Eden's request, and to fire at me on sight.

Great.

Fortunately, they made the soldiers exceedingly easy to kill, but I still didn't want to deal with them that much, so I donned a Stealth Boy to help mitigate the procedure.

I met up with Anna Holt, who was part of Dr. Li's science team, before she was "captured". She told me that she started working for the Enclave, now--citing the fact that they are so much more technologically advanced than anything she's ever seen, and that the Enclave is a force for good for humanity. Spitefully, I told her that she has betrayed Dr. Li and my father. If the Enclave is such a force for good, why is retrieving Project Purity a competition to them? Why were they so hostile to us? Why are they hostile in general?

I reached Eden's chamber. He told me his business, and I'm given a choice.

He claims to want to help Project Purity. After purifying the water supply, he aims to make it so the water will instantly kill anyone he deems to be a "mutant" (Super Mutants, Ghouls, etc). He's aware that I've made good acquaintance with both Super Mutants and Ghouls during my journey, but he claims that this proposal is indeed for the "greater good". However, a couple things rub me the wrong way.

He stated that I "might" be immune, because of my time spent in the Vault--but what exactly does my time spent in the Vault have to do with my radiation levels? If the water supply is going to kill anyone who is irradiated, then that means pretty much everyone is going to be killed, save for the Enclave and a handful of others.

...Right?

Regardless, he made me take a vial of modified FEV substance. After leaving the facility, I spotted Fawkes, who offered to join my "party" in thanks for allowing him to go free. I accepted, thinking about Cross again.

I stopped at Megaton to sell my loot and get my bearings. I have to head to the Citadel and tell Lyons what happened.

Boy, I'm just zipping through this game now. Maybe I'll have some time to do some extra side quests after all.

And thus begins the last quest of the base game

Will you be doing Broken Steel quests verb? They directly extend the main story so they generally count as part of the MQ for most people.

I'm actually gonna go back and do the Rescue From Paradise quest first, I think.

As for the DLC... I don't know. I'll certainly play it, but whether or not I'll cover it?... Not sure.
I kinda want this review up, to be honest.
