Very nice, can't wait for that one. Also I haven't read your whole thread, but what do you think of Fallout 3 so far?

i'm enjoying myself

the coolest thing about the game is the sheer amount of content--if things keep running smoothly, i can see this being a game i'll continue playing even after i'm finished with the main quest

the combat is clunky as hell, and i rely on V.A.T.S. a lot to cripple limbs and get headshots, but w/e

Good to hear you're enjoying it. Fallout is one of my favorite games.

And yeah, the combat is really clunky.

Dark Souls is the one everyone's played anyway, so it's probably better to play that

I was just wondering what course of action you were going to take. I mean it is a "Souls" game, but as for its connections to the other games it doesn't appear to be that significant.

The angel agreed to trade a set of white wings for the head of another demon. Overjoyed, the demon killed one of his own and plucked the head right off its still-warm body.

The angel then led the demon to heaven, where he underwent centuries of the cruelest tortures imaginable. Finally, the pain was so great that he lost consciousness - at which point his dark wings turned the promised shade of white.

Eden > Three Dog

Not that three dog is bad, he's just out of his league compared to listening to Malcolm McDowell ramble about the good old days and how he plans to clean up the cesspool of the Capital Wasteland.

Plunged into Friendship Heights, as I feared I would have to do. It wasn't so bad--the metros were stocked with some nice loot, and all the ghouls were easy enough to kill. Really, the only reason I was hesitant to dive in there was because of the raiders on the surface--one of which had a missile launcher, whom I didn't want to fuck with. Fortunately, that particular raider seemed to be absent--until about five minutes later, when he came back. With the help of V.A.T.S., I blew the missile launcher out of his hands and killed him before he had a chance to say anything about it.

V.A.T.S. is cool and all--I love how it lets you strike individual parts of your enemy, and how it tells you your chance of actually landing a hit on each particular part, but I just think it makes the combat a lot less... punchy.

In both Half-Life 2 and Halo: CE, the shotgun was my favorite weapon. It was a little bit OP in Halo, and majorly OP in Half-Life, making it very fun to use--at least for me, because I'm not the greatest shot in the world. Plus, it was just satisfying to use. There's just something about it. However, in this game, the shotgun (or, at least, the one I'm using) takes a bit more effort to use, which is refreshing. Weak enemies like armorless raiders are still one-shotted at point-blank range, but Super Mutants need a lot more lead to be pumped into them before they cave. Because of this, I often try to experiment with other weapons I've found--laser rifles, assault rifles--to do the job instead.

Speaking of assault rifles--I have a regular assault rifle, but I also have a Chinese assault rifle I picked up a long time ago that actually does more damage than the assault rifle--and it's in worse condition! What's up with that?... I thought part of the humor in Chinese weaponry is that they're all pretty junky, but apparently not with the AR.

I also found some potato... crisps... down in the metro. Um, I'm sorry, I thought this was America. CRISPS?

After I got out of of the metro, I met up with some more Brotherhood of Steel folks, who were having a skirmish with some more Super Mutants. You guys all know what happened here--they treat you like you're just some innocent pedestrian type as they escort you to GNR. I've already fought my fair share of Super Mutants, so I wasn't about to take some lip from anybody, but nonetheless, I allowed them to escort me.

Of course, the rookie of their squad ends up getting killed by a behemoth Super Mutant. I took it out with almost nothing but my shotgun (I actually fed it a missile first, but gave up after noticing how little damage it did), and as a result, I have almost no shells left. Someone else must have landed the final blow on it, because I don't recall seeing my experience bar go up after we took it out. If so, that sucks.

Spoke to Three Dog, and now I gotta help him out. But first, I'm gonna head to Minefield and do a couple more sidequests. Hopefully the Survival Guide quests are gonna be all wrapped up soon.

There was a Fat Man and a few mini-nukes on a dead BoS Paladin by the GNR building. You're supposed to use that to kill the Super Mutant Behemoth.

But I'm kinda glad you didn't do that because the game could have froze on you. That's happened to me a couple times when I played through that quest.

One more thing--about the dialogue. I appreciate the game's sparse use of the word "fuck" so far. Don't get me wrong--I love saying fuck, but too often, I think, do developers try too hard in making their dialogue as profane as possible, for... no reason other than to make it seem, uh, hardcore or badass or something. Like, you ever play Prototype? Great example. Or Shadow the Hedgehog. It gives the impression that they want their game to be as "tough" as possible, and it just ends up being... childish, cringeworthy, and the sort of game you can't really play with company, because nobody really wants to hear people swearing at each other at the top of their lungs.

Fallout 3 hasn't really done that so far. People swear, but they swear when it's appropriate. If that makes sense.

I dunno, I like it. I appreciate intelligent use of profanity.

Fallout's the kind of game that uses language appropriately man. This isn't Prototype 2 where Heller's every 5th word consists of fuck.

And usually, what I like about Fallout is that when swears do come up in dialogue, sometimes they're just hilarious. Which can be fitting contex because people usually like to say fuck when something serious is going on, or, when something less serious and more....what the fuck is going on.

I really do appreciate that about the series. Even if it had at the most, less than a dozen people voicing which could get a little repetitive after a while, they all put their effort into the dialogue.

So would you say the game has surpassed your expectations so far or not?

Or would you save that for the review?

Something else I appreciate. Making a game world is a pretty big deal. But filling it with so much detail is another. How many games out there like to say that they've got big worlds, but when you step into them, they're just hugely empty?

Anywhere you go in a bethesda game, that's not the case. Even walking into a seemingly abandoned building on top of a pile of rocks, you might find a story to that place, or just some special arrangement of items. I actually seriously don't know how they do it and work on something so massive.

That being said, their games are so big that you can't really blame them if they get a few boo-boos here and there with glitches. It's such a fucking enormous task to test in a game like that.

Went back into Minefield to pick up a frag mine for Moira's research. There was an old man called Arkansas who was firing at me with a sniper rifle from the top of some destroyed house, though. I don't want to kill him, but if he's still a threat the next time I come over there, I'm not sure if I'll have a choice.

Completed the first chapter of Moira's survival guide. All I got was four grenades and four stimpaks--not bad, but not as cool as the radiation perk I got from the last mission. I told her I was gonna take a break with the research for now. I don't wanna be caught up doing menial tasks for her for too long.

Now I'm gonna save Lucy's brother.

Actually, hold up--I'm gonna head where Korra told me to go first.

I thought it always sucked that no matter what you did, Eden blew himself up anyway. He wasn't actually evil, really. Just going about things the wrong way. Bonus brownie points for the what a twist moment when you find out that he went from a simple record keeping computer to something that was most likely sentient.

Eden did nothing wrong.

Indeed, it broke my blood-pump how that all ended up.

Found the boy Korra told me about. His town is being attacked by ants, and it looks like it's up to me to save him and his people.
I am literally a superhero at this point.

Also found Mel at the Super Duper Mart again. You know, the guy who tried to mug me, and I just gave him five caps out of sheer pity?... He was just sitting there... cowering. When I tried talking to him, it said, "Mel is fleeing." When I walked away, I bumped into a shopping cart, to which Mel said something snide. I turned out to see him lighting up a cigarette, but when I walked back up to him, he started cowering again. And my pip-boy kept telling me that he was still fleeing.

...Glitch...?
