hey
Alright so modded my Fallout to a degree. It runs at 60fps, is stable, texture pack, ADS, radio, characters, weapon texture packs, etc.

Only odd thing is it crashes when I try to change my eye color in character creator but THAT'S it. Idk why of all things, THAT'S the thing that triggers the crash.

At least that's all I know so far. Could be other things but I have yet to extensively play it.
Can you link me all your mods?

I'm tempted to play Fallout 3 again >.>

I entered Vault 106.

For some reason, I expected this to be a more... pleasant visit. As I opened the vault, it didn't occur to me at first just how easy it was to get in--normally, as the Overseer has taught us, you don't come in, and you don't come out. Nonetheless, I thought I'd meet a couple of friendly faces.

It became clear to me that I wasn't in a safe place as soon as I spotted a small puddle of blood on the floor, just before I reached what was supposed to be the vault's living quarters. All the rooms were dark, with desks, sheets of paper, and other rubbish strewn about all over the floor. One room early on was home to a couple of fried skeletons guarding a monitor and two laser pistols. Unfortunately, the laser pistols lacked batteries, and the terminal was too cryptic for me to hack, so I made a note to invest in my science skill the next time I leveled up.

I experienced mild frame rate issues as I shambled across the dilapidated chambers of the vault's decrepitude, wondering if it had anything to do with the fact that my flashlight was constantly turned on. Occasionally, I would have an encounter with what my pip-boy referred to as an "insane survivor"--I wondered, survivor of what? Regardless, they were dangerous, and a lot of them attacked with combat knives and lead pipes. Towards the end, I even came across one crazed fellow with a sledgehammer.

With a strong desire to conserve ammunition, I took out the bulk of the insanos with various blunt objects--the same ones they would use, typically. I only pulled out my pistol if they ran, which was cumbersome--the game allows you to place hotkeys on nine different weapons. Kinda like Ratchet & Clank's quick-select feature. Trouble is, the keys are very unresponsive, and the insanos would manage to escape every time. V.A.T.S. didn't help--I was better off clubbing everybody to death, which was very satisfying to do with the lead pipe. It made me feel like I was the insane one.

In fact, one of the strangest things that occurred during my infiltration was the fact that my vision kept going all blurry. A blue filter would splash across my field of vision every so often, giving me hallucinations and teleporting me to random locations. It was startling at first, because I had no idea what the fuck was going on--but then I read on some terminal that the reason everyone's going insane, including me, is because the Overseer started spilling some kind of neurotoxic gas into the vault, for some unstated reason. That cleared things up, somewhat, but it made me want to read the first terminal I saw towards the beginning even more.

One of the survivors wasn't insane, however, as noted by my pip-boy. He put up a lot more of a fight, and had a great deal more HP than anybody else I fought. He was also the only one I saw wearing a labcoat in there. I felt bad for killing him, but I was going through a really bad hallucination at that point--the Tunnelsnakes from Vault 101 started appearing and disappearing, attacking me, and I just wanted it to end. <_< Killing the poor guy seemed to be the only means to that end, and I never had another hallucination for the rest of the vault after I did. Still--he was an aggressor, and I was only acting out of self-defense anyway.

Once I leveled up, I invested in speech and science, and went for the Daddy's Boy perk. Alas--when I accessed the terminal, I failed to override the lockout. Hopefully it'll only be locked for twenty-four hours, like most password interfaces.

As for looting, I had a pretty decent harvest. Lots of valuable items sitting on shelves were mine for the taking. Conductors, sensor modules, wonderglue, turpentine, lots of pre-war money, big cartons of cigarettes, a fission battery, a science bobblehead, lots of food, and even a miniature nuke were all pocketed. Most importantly, I found a few stimpacks--not a lot, but enough to keep me going for awhile. In the vault, I found a couple of beds, so I got all my limbs healed up without too much trouble, but...

Man. What a fucked up place that was. And I still haven't even completed it yet.

I suppose I should know by now that nowhere is safe in this game.

I can only imagine that this vault is only one of a very many I'll be experiencing.

The vaults are secretly social experiments designed to test certain scenarios on a contained populace. Some were succesful, most weren't. Only Vault 101 was never intended to open, as to study the effects of long term isolation on a small group.

So that's why there were hallucinations; Vault experiment.

i'm assuming that you're only telling me this because there is no in-game lore explaining it
otherwise i wouldn't have appreciated you telling me

You'll never be told about vault experiments as far as I can remember. They were i troduced in Fallout 2 so have been a staple of the franchise since, to find out the purpose wluld involve inferring it from not so obvious computer entries.

There's only a handful of vaults that survived - be it 'control' vaults (worked as advertised) or succesful experiments (Like V101)

I can link a page with all the vault experiments of you like. Personally I find them the most intriguing aspect of Fallout and I get the impression you would.

I don't mind. It's always interesting what people find interesting/engaging in open world games like this.

Despite that fact that I think Bethesda Fallout games are garbage, I'm rather intrigued as to the vaults that will be in Fallout 4.

Sold all my loot to the folks in Megaton, and reached my goal of 500 caps. Before speaking to Moriarty, though, I made sure to fix all the busted pipes in the town, as well, with my newfound repair skills. Walter paid me much more handsomely for it than I anticipated--200 caps. And now I have someone to return scrap metal to in case I find any.

With 700 caps in hand, I'm finally prepared to pay Moriarty for information about my dad.
But if he fucks me over again, I can't promise I won't just kill the bastard.

Updated the OP with my current quests:

☐ Find Galaxy News Radio.
☑ Speak to Colin Moriarty about Dad.
☑ Investigate the nearby town of Megaton for information about Dad.
Wasteland Survival Guide
☐ (Optional) Find medicine in the Super-Duper Mart.
☐ Find food in the Super-Duper Mart.
Big Trouble in Big Town
☐ Rescue the Big Town captives from the Super Mutants.
☑ Ask the people of Big Town about their captured friends.
Blood Ties
☐ Deliver Lucy's message.
The Power of the Atom
☐ Disarm Megaton's atomic bomb.
Aiding the Outcasts
☐ Investigate the Outcast Radio Signal
Not of This World
☐ Investigate the strange radio frequency coming from the Wasteland.
Into The Pitt
☐ Find the source of the radio transmissions.
The Local Flavor
☐ Investigate the riverboat.

Paid the caps to Moriarty; he spilled it. Next thing on the agenda is to find Galaxy News Radio.

By the way, something else I forgot to mention--you know my thing against selling drugs to people? And how I said I wanted to poison Moriarty? Well, I found three large cartons of cigarettes in Vault 106. They're valued at 50 caps apiece, and I have no qualms whatsoever with selling them to good ol' Moriarty here. I'll be glad to indirectly contribute to his agonizing demise. :)

UH, YEAH. IT IS. What, you just want a dead body lying there on the fucking floor for the rest of time?...

what a cunt

Back en route to Arefu. Found a map marker in Kaelyn's Bed & Breakfast, where a couple of raiders were hiding. They had dogs, shotguns, and a flamethrower. They almost killed me, when out of nowhere comes these men in suits--the same suit on the cover of the game that I've been wondering about--the Brotherhood Outcasts. I was practically in awe. After saving me, they didn't say nothing--they just slowly walked away like badasses. It was sick.

I wanna be just like them.

And of course, I not only have a flamethrower now, but two shotguns as well! Pretty damn good haul.

Made it to Arefu. It's actually a small village on a bridge, which is interesting. One of the guards almost blew me up, thinking I was a raider, or something. Apparently they have gang problems--raiders/slavers slaughtered all of their brahmin. All I wanted to do was deliver Lucy's message to her family, but now I'm tied into this new sidequest, too. Oh boy. I'm just drowning in sidequests right now.

Anyway, I went into the West household to deliver the message, and, predictably, it turns out that they're all dead. They have bite marks in their necks that run deep into the bone, however. That's pretty unsettling.

Oh well--time to report back to Lucy. :-/
