I've just come to the conclusion that I love pre-war Fallout

Any characters who act prewar, I'm going to love right off the bat. The 50s culture and mannerisms blended with the 50s technologial vision of the future comes together in such a mystifying way. I wouldn't mind a non-fallout Fallout set entirely before 2077, tbh.

Live in a family in the weeks leading up to the war, at the height of paranoia and national tensions. It would be much more story/choice driven and less about weapons. Of course, non-canonical endings would be available, which would add to the effect your character has on the world. With the amazing atmosphere of pre-war Fallout, I could see a game like that being very fun.

Just because he enjoys the look/feel of pre-war Fallout, doesn't suddenly mean he's discounting what Fallout stands for. Heck, even one of the creators wants a Fallout game during the Resource Wars.

And they teased that culture even more in Fallout 4 with the small tid-bit before the war.

Edit: They kinda teased in in Fallout 3 as well with the sim in the pod

Already had Operation Anchorage which was easily the most boring of the DLC's from Fallout 3.

Leaving the past of a Post Apocalyptic US as fragments of books and scattered 50's propaganda posters is better for leaving the rest to the imagination. Having the few mysteries of the past filled in by a prequel game would be far below expectations.

Will be fair though; the tidbit of the prewar age was brilliant, but I'm happy if they left it at that.

I'd say that the want to know more is a sign of a good job done on the deverlopers part.

I do agree with your point, though. I mean, look how the forerunner books turned out with Halo.

Heck, I'll admit being a conscript/spy being sent off for the invasion of China (with the roleplayer's alternative choice of a beginning, of course) and having to survive the onset of the nuclear war and coming winter over there would be the absolute tightest shit. Dealing with the Loyalist remnants of the Chinese military and some of the remaining soldiers who have begun carving up swathes of territory for their own little city-states, uncovering super secret black ops programs detailing technological developments and weapons programs, fighting monsters even more horrifically mutated than what's in the States because China's kind of a shit hole anyway, etc.
