It was just released on console internationally after only being available in Japanese arcades for a year or so.

For the most part, there's been very little interaction between the Street Fighter and Super Smash Bros. communities. You very rarely see the two communities compete with one another in a single game.

It seems that is about to change. HyperX is apparently hosting an event on July 18th that will pit a number of top SF5 players up against SSBM games, based on fan votes.

One game that is guaranteed to be at the event is Nintendo's newly released Switch game, Arms. While SSBM players are probably more familiar with the Nintendo than the SF5 players, it doesn't seem like either team has any sort of advantage.

Team SFV is composed of FOX|Tokido, FOX|Momochi, FOX|Chocoblanka, FOX|Justin Wong, BST|Daigo, CYG|PR Balrog, RB|SnakeEyez, and PG|Punk. Meanwhile, Team SSBM is made up of TL|HungryBox, C9|Mango, FOX|Mew2King, G2|Westballz, TL|Chudat, TL|Chillindude, TL|Ken, and TSM|Leffen.

holy fucking shit

That's a massive drop, damn.
Couple reasons for it. Street Fighter V was brand new, so a spike in attendance was essentially guaranteed, but at the same time, there was no reason to expect all those first-time attendees to return—especially considering how poorly the game has been selling in general (between May and September of last year, it failed to ship even 100K copies). Nonetheless, it created some unrealistic expectations for future turnouts.

Additionally, there's been a change of venue that's doubling ticket prices. Last year's series took place mostly in Vegas, and tickets were about $40 if I'm not mistaken. Now, the entire tournament is taking place at fancy-schmancy Mandalay Bay, which is costing attendees about $80.

As for Melee, finals won't be taking place on Sunday—meaning it won't take part on the big stage, which is disappointing for lots of people. Melee's being treated more as a side event now.

Either way, it's still a pretty alarming drop.

I'd pay that much. Fighting games are great.

You're paying less for that than you are to watch some shitty boxing ppv where you're not even fucking there.

will do

smash.gg has an interesting bracket where they project the whole tournament

in the top 8, they have Armada, M2K, Hbox, and Mango in winner's
Wizzrobe, Leffen, Chudat, and Plup in loser's

they have Armada winning against Hbox in grands

seems pretty reasonable, but my god, i do NOT WANT armada to win this year

i'd love for Hbox to win again, and i'd settle for mango, but armada has been such a pissbaby all year and i'd hate for him to even get second place, i just don't think he deserves it despite being the best player in the world right now
