I especially like how the airship actually feels like it's more than just a token Levelution™ gimmick.

Now just so long as it doesn't crash the game at lauch this time.

I mean seriously that campaign was already like dragging your balls through the glass. I dont know how may times I had to wince at the words "Agent Ko-Bitch"  before I just gave up.

Yeaaaah I feel like Fallout 4 as a whole has been a huge middle finger to Fallout and the fans. Bethesda saying fuck you to previously established lore, fuck you to Interplay, fuck you to Obsidian, fuck you to fans of the series.

Nuka World as a concept doesn't even interest me. It doesn't even seem to involve interesting factions, just generic raiders who have taken over an amusement park. I would've preferred something relating to, well, anything else really. I don't see it adding to the lore (what's left of it, anyway) or adding any interesting characters or factions.

Bethesda have proven time and time again to have no grasp on what Fallout actually is. This DLC stuff hammered home just how out-of-touch they are with the franchise.

i love how dramatic fallout fans get with this shit

calling the game a "middle finger" or a "fuck you" to anything or anybody makes your personal disappointment sound like something intentional by the developers--and i can 300% guarantee you that that's not the case

maybe even 500%, because that's how ridiculously obvious it is. get a grip

Of course I'm exaggerating. But I can't say I'm not incredibly disappointed with how Bethesda has handled Fallout.

Fedorekd's reply to me states what I was trying to convey, but without the hyperbole.

A series fans are passionate for, are disappointed and sensitive when a new developer comes in and completely goes against what the original games went for. And thus they get angry about it.

I'm shocked.

if they have ever once stated that fallout 4 was going to "stay true to the original games' roots," or something generic like that, then i guess that would make sense to be a little disappointed

but fallout 3 still happened, so it should've been expected that they'd use it as a throughline for all future games

Yeah but when you start butchering lore that's been established for years and years, that's when it gets a bit far. It's okay to throw your own creative take on it. It's another to just piss on the original creators by switching things up.

fallout 3 was less offensive because it was still an rpg back then and was relying on previous games' lore a lot, but only with a surface level understanding. fallout 4 on the other hand...

If these diehard fanboys of the original Fallouts don't like what Bethesda is doing with modern Fallout games, there's this crazy new thing called "not playing them".

Fallout 1 and 2 were great, sure. But they were artifacts of their time. At least the series is moving forward. There have been some shitty retcons, especially involving ghoul physiology and power armor, but that's far from destroying the franchise.

I know it's a small thing

But I will forever be triggered that Fallout 4 made it canon that Jet was a pre-war drug, when you meet the guy in Fallout 2 who MADE THE DAMN THING.

It's just an example of them pissing on the lore.

and before anyone jumps on me going "wow over SUCH a small thing? Lol Luci you stupid slut", I will remind you they did the same thing with Power Armor in Fallout 4, and the Brotherhood of Steel as an entire concept in Fallout 3 (hence why they basically retcon them in Fo4).

More like incessantly bitching about Fallout 4, almost a full year after it's release, about the same exact things. Like, we get it, you hate the game. Move on and play a different one.

Fallout 3 made that canon.

And yeah, it's so unbelievable that a person like fucking Myron would reverse engineer the process to making a forgotten drug and then claim it as his own original creation. It's not like that's completely in line with his character or anything like that. In fact, it just makes his character even stronger and more interesting.

Wow, you just reassured me that you have no idea what you're talking about. In the game itself, it's made abundantly clear that the East Coast chapter of the BoS deviated from the Codex because of Elder Lyons. The Brotherhood Outcasts are the people who stayed loyal to the meaning of the organization. And there was no retcon, there's this thing called "Lyons died and a less idealistic leader took his place"

Putting a unique spin on a splinter of a preexisting faction, for completely reasonable and narratively intact reasons, is not changing the entire concept of the whole group.

I know exactly what I'm talking about when it comes to Fallout lore. I know exactly what the explanation was, but it still went against everything the pre-existing faction did.

To which they fixed in Fallout 4 and off handedly put the history in a paragraph or two on a computer in Fallout 4. It's about as retcon like as you can get without simply saying it didn't happen.

There was nothing unique ABOUT the Outcast in Fallout 3 other than they were less friendly and isolated BoS members.

And that sounds like an excuse if anything to justify changing it for no reason.

How did Fallout 3 make it canon?

Edit: And I don't hate Fallout 4. I'm playing it right now. That doesn't mean as a fan of the series I can't be critical of where I feel it comes short. In fact I think it makes you more a fan that you don't just blindly defend a game. And I was more or less talking about things in general. The whole "haha if you dont like it dont buy it or talk about it" mentality is so childish.

There were jet containers in some of the sealed vaults, but that was more of a result of the randomised loot system.

I'm also gonna clarify that I don't dislike Fallout 4. I think it's a great game. It's just the direction that it's putting Fallout in that I dislike. As well as the lore.

What was unique about them was that they were the Brotherhood of Steel. Lyons' group was NOT the BoS, at all. They were defectors from the Codex. That's the whole fucking point, and why the Outcasts left the "main" group in the first place.

And that sounds like an excuse if anything to justify changing it for no reason.

How did Fallout 3 make it canon?
Not all change is inherently bad and needs to have a reason behind it. It just so happens that this reason is actually good. Jet being pre-war is one of the most innocuous and easily explained retcons, and one that makes the source game (Fallout 2) even better. Myron was an egotistical, conniving shit. It only heightens his character that his one claim to fame wasn't even his.

Fallout 3 made it canon by letting you find jet in sealed, pre-war bunkers and vaults.
