You mean openly shaming and reducing their harmless work?  As well as the developers that don't look at the situation through the same narrow and superfluous lens?
what's wrong with that

There's the gameplay. Now this, I could understand calling it a movie. I enjoyed Heavy Rain and Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit, so hopefully this one turns out well too.

Speaking of Swastikas earlier... I think it's cut from the game period. You don't even play as them. Would be SS, right? You play as regular Wehrmacht.

Well yeah, the Wehrmacht were the national fighting force of the German military, which included the Navy, Army, and Airforce. It was the same in World at War. Plus they weren't the ones killing the Jews left and right. The swastika still applied across the entire German nation though.

Because of its closer link to the Nazi Party, the Waffen-SS was entrusted to act against internal and political enemies whereas the Wehrmacht was to focus on foreign enemies. So basically one is a normal military, the other is special forces along with silencing dissidents.

YouTube

That being said, the SS and Wehrmacht worked together and had a complicated relationship, along with fighting side by side because Germany needed the manpower. Had they won, the difference between them would be more obvious (such as the pure racial requirements to join the SS, but that was abandoned later in the war since they needed manpower).

I still don't understand why you think a game is static. The fact that updates and DLC exist is proof they aren't.
patches and DLC are different because they're official

it's the original artist coming in and improving upon his own work, so of course i'm okay with that

i'm less okay with DLC because i think it's a huge scam, but that's another subject

Huh, had to look some of this up to learn it. I'm glad I learned a new an interesting thing.

I wonder if the Waffen-SS will be in Wolfenstein.

Is anybody seriously considering buying this game?

- No create a class (we get Battlefield-like classes instead)
- Same old open area with symmetrical cover maps
- Clearly copying BF1's Operations with new mode

So much for "Same Game Every Year" and "Going back to It's roots. Call of Duty Stopped existing back when It decided it was fucking ODST: Advanced Warfare, and then Titanfall lite two yeras in a row.

Honestly, if CoD abandoned the same tripe it's been pushing for years and takes notes from Battlefield, I wouldn't mind it at all. It'd feel more like a war at least and less like paintball.

Exactly. In fact I'd argue MW2 was the last time the series actually tried anything new and daring. Maybe this is a turning point.

Doubt it.

Okay nevermind I saw actual gameplay. Yeah looks like the same tripe bullshit that I stopped loving about CoD a long time ago.

And lol a black woman in the German army in WW2. Yeah, okay.

I don't think the MP is even trying to be accurate to history. Let's see how the SP does.

Sorry, but no. MW3's multiplayer was boring as shit, and the sprint animations made me want to rip my eyes out. Running with the shotgun was never so horrible.

It also still looks like complete shit. Maybe get off the 2005 engine.

Okay after seeing it all, let's nitpick and analyze.

First off, the dude playing fucking sucks and it was annoying me. Second, I came in ready to hate this video and say how shitty CoD is as usual, but after sitting down and watching and reflecting to other CoD games, I am giving this an honest thought.

Black woman in the German military fighting. Don't even gotta touch that, so let's just assume it's like Battlefield 1 in that the multiplayer isn't trying to be very accurate, where as the single player is. Gonna appeal to the mass audience, I get it (though I think placing women in a WW2 game is really pushing it).

It's a compressed video, so I can't really be accurate with the look, BUT; Lighting looks a fuck ton better, but textures still look very muddy. Still not leading the FPS genre in any sort of looks though like it used to around CoD 4 (with consoles at least), which is disappointing.

Gunshot sounds sound like complete compressed ass. Battlefield has spoiled me with bullets flying by and guns firing. I did manage to hear sniper bolt when clearing between shots though and that sounded metallic, so a good thing there. However it's hard to listen over these idiots talking, so this isn't accurate at all.

UI seems simplistic, which is nice.

Minimap looks like classic CoD games and you and friendly icons flash when firing, so that's good in coordinating where enemies are

There are CUTSCENES BETWEEN ROUNDS (and at the beginning, bonus) which is fucking awesome. That hasn't been done since Battlefield Bad Company 2 and I really wish they'd bring it back.

Finally, showing soldiers in the lobby between games is a nice look to things. They look pretty neat.

Overall, I don't know. I detested what CoD has become over the years, having no interest since Black Ops 2 in the slightest, mainly because of how the game slowly became less about gunplay, and more about killstreaks (though really this has been since MW2, where my liking of the series slowly started to wane). But this game really does sort of actually have my attention. I don't know if I'll get it or not. I have a whole summer to decide though, so the more I see of gameplay, the more I'll make my decision. I know it'll keep the CoD formula which I am not too keen on, but if killstreaks are not the central point of this game where they just dominate the field, and are more so just a slight assistant, it'll be something I consider.

MW3's multiplayer was boring as fuck and had some of the shittiest maps ever conceived, the campaign didn't live up to CoD4/MW2 standards and was extremely short and super easy on Veteran, spec ops was nothing special, and Survival mode wasn't interesting and didn't do anything innovative.

They also introduced Call of Duty: Elite with MW3 and it was supposed to be this big, new social experience for everyone that plays Call of Duty and got sacked after Black Ops 2 only a year later.

Anyways, I'm sick of these CoD developers blatantly copying mechanics from other FPS games. It's what has been driving away the fans ever since Advanced Warfare. I want CoD to stay how CoD is and if I want to play Battlefield or Titanfall, I'd go play those. This is the same reason why I ditched Halo.

I'd argue that modding is a big part of the reason why the industry is as big as it is. Counterstrike, one of the most popular games on the planet, was basically born out of modding Half Life. Hell, I doubt Valve and Steam would be anywhere near as big as they are if it weren't for people modding the shit out of their games. Hell, do you think people would still be playing skyrim or fallout 4 if they didn't have mods to extend their longevity?

Bethesda's name is basically built on people modding their games. Same for games like Halo CE and Star Wars Battlefront II, which got entire new maps and campaign experiences (Like the SPv3 mod for Halo CE that adds weapons and enemies and stuff from later games into Halo 1) that kept people playing for over a decade after they first released.

Then there's the guys who use modding as a means of learning how to make games. Like, there's a well known example of the guy who made the Falskaar mod for Skyrim who got hired by Bungie because of his work in creating what was essentially a new game. And a lot of the original big studios like id were basically just bedroom programmers messing with stuff.

That's before coming to stuff like the Tale of Two Wastelands that puts all the Fallout 3 map amd quests into New Vegas, allowing you to play both games as one or the STALKER mod that does something similar. And then there's the ones that seek to make games playable; I've heard that a lot of PC ports like Dark Souls are basically unplayable without people going and making patch jobs themselves. Hell, I mod my Fallout 4 to get rid of some fancy lighting effects like Volumetric Rays and lens flares so I can run the game smoother, because certain sections of Boston are impossible to play in otherwise.

I feel like dismissing it entirely out of hand is a disservice to stuff when modding is a big part of why some of the major studios in business today even exist at all. Idk, I can see where Verb is coming fromnbut I've never really got why people beat the GAMES IZ ART drum so much.

Fixing a glitch has nothing to do with art.
sure it does

why wouldn't it? it's part of the final product of the game, no different than a painter's mistake

are you really gonna allow your whole argument to hinge upon this flimsy point
Quote
Then shouldn't you logically support mods?
logically, absolutely not

after everything i've said so far, that would be extremely illogical

just because DLC is a scam doesn't make mods okay—they're still fucking insultingly retarded
Quote
Plenty of museums are free.
but not all of them

in order for you to make this point, all museums must be free

The angel agreed to trade a set of white wings for the head of another demon. Overjoyed, the demon killed one of his own and plucked the head right off its still-warm body.

The angel then led the demon to heaven, where he underwent centuries of the cruelest tortures imaginable. Finally, the pain was so great that he lost consciousness - at which point his dark wings turned the promised shade of white.
Im curious Verb, do you apply the same logic to game engines? Many are based on older engines like Source is on Quake, which was made by id software.

Thats taking someones work and modifying it.

I would argue that the industry does not need to be as big as it is. If modding never existed, and the industry would be a lot smaller because of it, I'd consider that a worthy sacrifice.

I've also stated repeatedly that i'm okay with mods as long as you're making a completely new and original game out of them, like CounterStrike.

Skyrim and Fallout 4 do not deserve longevity and should've died years ago.
Quote

>people have been drenching their games in piss for a decade

woah dude

And yeah, that's why Bethesda is a joke. That's why Halo: CE is a joke. That's why Battlefront II is a joke. If the games aren't good enough to be played without mods, then they didn't actually last ten years at all.

When you mod a game, it's not that game anymore. It's your tainted version of the game. The moment you taint your game with a mod, it instantly dies. So I don't want to hear about this "longevity" thing.
Quote

Those mods are probably the worst of all. It shouldn't be up to the community to fix something that the developers are clearly responsible for. It's THEIR fucking job to fix it, not ours. And what a horrible precedent to set for the industry—"Let's release a broken-ass game and just let people fix it for us!" Yeah, brilliant.

I think there's a distinction to be made between modding someone's "work" and modding someone's art.

Game engines facilitate the creation of art, but they themselves are not what I'd call art. You can't exactly "taint" something that wasn't ever designed for any artistic purpose, at least not in the way that I'm talking about.

So if an artist wants to mod an engine to help create his own art, then more power to him. I don't care what the painter does with his easel, and I don't care what the author does with his typewriter.

We're sorry you feel that way. We at Bethesda take your criticism seriously, and we feel your opinion adds to the value of our games, and shows how great our community is. That being said, we'd like to introduce to you Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on mobile phones. We know our fans love Skyrim, so what better way to play it then on the go? Play it on your bus ride, airplane, or in the car! We know you'll love what we have to offer.

At the low price of $49.99, we know fans will be eager to play this timeless classic. Just ask our play tester Modd Toward!

"I love this game. I highly recommend it!"

See? People love it.
