I'm pretty biased due to where I live, but I never understood why people are okay with how bad the latency is for dark souls pvp
People commonly say you just have to learn to play with the lag, and I just have to wonder why? Even now that I have useable internet it's still terrible

Verbatim is the type of dude to use magic in PvP
That's fine as long as it's not Dark Bead or Pursuers
He’ll use it when he starts raging at higher level PvP.
have never once raged at this game

It's because in a "good" match the latency is at least consistent enough that it can genuinely be played through with some decent semblance of normalcy. You can actually tell what is going on the lag and it becomes a game of who can punish better.

I was dinking around with a challenge run generator for this game. I gave myself one challenge for every difficulty level, which goes from "casual," "experienced," "veteran," "master," and "masochist."

Naturally, they're supposed to just get stupider and stupider, but funnily enough, the "casual" challenge wound up being the most extreme one I got:
Quote
Weapon Type: Talismans
You may use only this type of weapon in your right hand.

That's just insane enough for me to actually try out, especially since it'll serve as the perfect opportunity for me to try out miracles with a faith-based build, something I otherwise would never have bothered with. So I started a second file where I'm committing to this challenge, and I'm two bosses in. Thank god for Fire Bombs.

That's hardly a "challenge run". It's extra healing and offensive miracles hit like a meteor.

extra healing that takes an extra billion years, and i cannot use a shield if i want to do any melee damage whatsoever

offensive miracles like what

the ones that require you to progress a country mile into the game first?

Dammage scaling.  Pretty much it's how From soft tries to ballance early and late game weapons.
The ones intened for early game have higher base dammage but lower scaling and thus diminishing returns as you level the relevant stat (in your case Faith) and so the inverse is true for late game weapons.
I don't remember all the DkS1 talismans but I  know basic talisman  should be perfectly fine untill you hit like 40 or 50 faith.
There's also one talisman that scales with int for no reason sold by T-pose man. Feel free to ignore it.

On my normal playthrough, I'm Forest Hunter+2, whatever that means.

The dude in the Eastern Armor is also gone now.

Finally just got indicted by somebody, so I'll know what it's like to be attacked by Darkmoon Blades soon, I guess.

I was putting off Blighttown for awhile for obvious reasons, but they seem to have fixed it completely.

I actually dislike the Depths more, now. Blighttown is actually kind of fun and interesting to navigate when the frame rate isn't shitting the bed the whole time.

the description of the challenge was very specific: only talismans are allowed in my right hand

"right hand" is an in-game term that specifically refers to the two equipment slots that are labeled as such in the menu; therefore, i am allowed to have other weapons in my left hand (which allows me to do one awkward swing by hitting parry when i don't have a thrusting sword or parrying dagger equipped, which makes fighting enemies in this run not completely impossible) as well as have however many offensive items i please in my five item slots, because even though fire bombs are indeed thrown with the right hand, they don't actually take up either of the two slots that are actually labeled "right hand"

this is the generator that i used, for the record

by selecting "masochist" and generating a whole bunch, you can see all the different types of challenges that it offers, and one of the challenges is "No Consumables," with the description "You may not use any consumable items except for Estus Flask."

i would personally file firebombs under consumable, and since that wasn't the challenge i was given, it's not the one i'll partake in--if it is to be assumed by default that items like that are banned, then surely the website would've let me know that

then again, the website never generates anything like "No Co-op" or "No Summons," which would technically open the door to such things, but i would never actually take advantage of that in a challenge run anyway for my own pride

items should be fine, though

for comparison's sake, here's the other challenges i got for the remaining difficulty levels:

"experienced"
- start as knight, forced to use every new item i see, magic is the only upgrade path

"veteran"
- start as cleric, spears only, SL20 max, no shields, no master key

"master"
- start as knight, spears only, SL20 max, no shields, no master key, no spells, divine is the only upgrade path

"masochist"
- start as warrior, greatswords only, SL20 max, no shields, no consumables, and no weapon upgrades

all of these are pretty fucking boring, so it's kinda funny how the "casual" run i generated wound up being the most interesting one by far--but yeah, i was never given the "no consumables" one for that, so i don't feel guilty for using them

for the sake of argument, we can say that being able to use items in this run is part of what makes it a "casual" challenge

i would be willing to try something more extreme, though, like the SL1 challenge, but starting as a pyromancer gives me access to a spell that the first three or four bosses are all weak to, unless i'm supposed to avoid using it (in which case, it becomes an SL1 no magic challenge, which to me is a separate thing)

The angel agreed to trade a set of white wings for the head of another demon. Overjoyed, the demon killed one of his own and plucked the head right off its still-warm body.

The angel then led the demon to heaven, where he underwent centuries of the cruelest tortures imaginable. Finally, the pain was so great that he lost consciousness - at which point his dark wings turned the promised shade of white.

Im surprised you like sens fortress.

Im baffled as to why it gets any praise at all in the souls community when its video gamey as hell in an otherwise immersive world.

okay nvm fuck blighttown still

i just got caught on a pixel on the way to the bonfire, nothing visible was blocking me but i couldn't move anywhere, and i lost 18K souls because of it (i've been grinding for karmic justice)

in fact, all four of the last four deaths i've suffered in the past twelve hours of gameplay have been the game's fault entirely, whether it be lag or just retarded janky shit like that

this is what pisses me off about people who try to argue that souls don't matter in this game

Karmic Justice: 40,000 souls

do i plan on using this? no
do i need it if i want to 100% the game? yes

imagine if some random laggy invader killed me while i was inches away from recovering my shit

why is that something i should be okay with as a game mechanic

i'm playing the game online like everyone wanted me to and i still don't get it

it's like i was always right the whole time or something

i think i know what you mean, actually, but i don't think it's so bad in that regard, and i tend to think of immersion as one of the game's secondary appeals anyway

i just think it's a lot of fun to go through, especially if you're trying not to get hit
