I'm so glad that Call of Duty decided that adding diversity to their character list was a priority.
I'm not sure that's sarcastic or not knowing you, but I would love to see some bits of the African American squads, as I only know one CoD that did it (Finest Hour). That and female French Resistance fighters, who did actually fight. People joke the French for surrendering quickly, but the French Resistance was pretty bad ass.

I like diversity as much as the next white gay man in America, however, the way it's described in the Neogaf spoilers post just makes me laugh and cringe.

Spoiler
Quote
If you specifically want to know all the game's diversity (feel free to discuss this without using spoiler tags in the thread): "Other characters appear including female resistance fighters, a soldier in an African-American unit (the U.S. Army was still segregated in WWII), a British officer and even a child."

The way it's described - "A black soldier!" "A British officer!" "A child!" - comes off as pandering to people who are critiquing the gaming industry for a lack of racial and gender diversity. It shouldn't be a surprise that we're seeing a British officer in a game about WWII, when we are allied with the damn nation. It comes off as all show, no substance.

Similarly, the lack of plurals for those three examples (Since the post with the spoiler makes sure to pluralize female fighters) indicates that Sledgehammer is only tossing a handful in of "minorities" for appeasement. Instead of saying "We'll see a whole platoon of black soldiers!", we get "A (Singular) soldier"

Would love to be proved wrong with more details, but this just comes across as Sledgehammer making the feintest attempt at diverse characters, while not overdoing it to piss off the ignorant high schoolers that comprise a sizeable portion of the series' fanbase.

As long as it keeps raking in cash, it won't. They'll do to it what they did to Guitar Hero.

Might possibly be a new engine as a friend of mine pointed out. It appears to handle smoke, fog, fire, and facial animations differently.

We'll have to wait for gameplay though to be sure.

The people crying about the diversity don't realize character diversity goes back all the way to CoD: Finest Hour. You played as a female for a couple missions in the Russian campaign as well as other Russians, a black guy for a few missions in the American campaign, and a Brit for the British campaign. None of them felt forced either and they all had their own moments and little backstories which were interesting. Nobody bitched about it then, maybe it was because CoD wasn't as big as it is now.

Another thing, they better not fuck up the gun sounds and make them sound like toys, especially the MG42

No jetpacks?  Damn, color me surprised.

Pretty skeptical about CoD campaigns, though.  They've been garbage since like MW2, tailored for people with attention spans the size of a peanut.  And the trailer didn't really grab me all that much: more of the same, but prettier.  Still hopeful for the multiplayer though.

It still interests me a lot more than the last 10 years of fucking tacti-l33t Robocops running around with blunts painted on their guns.

How much you wanna bet that you're going to be finding some secret super weapon the nazis made that would turn the tide of the war and the fate of the world is going to be in your hands

It has more so to do with society and the alt righty's splerging on the internet boards now a days at anything that might feel """""inclusive"""""

Or the more logical thought. People are stupid in essence

You guys realise it's still going to be the same run 'n' gun tacticool shooter with a WW2 skin? Right?

Don't really understand why people are getting hyped up about another WW2 CoD. A turd is still a turd no matter how much "look, we're returning to our roots" marketing you throw at it.

NOOOOOOOO FUCKING WAY REEAAALY?!?!

CLEARLY Iv'e been buying these games hoping I for a Story-based Fantasy turn-based JRPG Visual novel with complex ARG elements like I love bees and an underlying message of Environmental activism.

HOW DISAPPOINTING.

Next you'll be telling me that the next Borderlands game will have loot and guns in it.

I dont know if I like that they are removing auto health regen. It's it's Call of Duty, I buy these games for a simple shoot-em-up. If I actualy wanted realism I could play ARMA, or do something productive and join the actual millitry. Who knows, maybe this will be a massive improvement, like somehow breaking the cancerous meta of perma-baserape that has become synonymous with the series.

Well I guess Black Ops 2 will always exist.

I mean

other games without health regen have been far less than realistic.

I was under the impression that for most of the occupation the various resistance organizations were largely fighting against each other and it wasn't until Britain got them to do a variety of coordinated sabotage missions behind the German lines on D-Day that they actually got anything of use for the allies done.

Are you saying the resistance fighters were fighting each other?

The earlier CoDs didn't have health regen. You had to go around the levels and collect health packs and heal yourself when you had the chance. It made the game more challenging and required some strategy to get through missions. You could also heal your allies which was pretty cool.

They're doing this to make you feel vulnerable and like an actual soldier and not feel like a super hero that can mow down hundreds of soldiers by yourself while taking a bunch of damage that you can recover from if you get to cover for a few seconds.

If you know, you know.
To be honest, my most hated thing in CoD is the fact that they do not allow you to go anywhere.

I remember playing Advanced Warfare, Exposition stage (AKA level 1), I decided to see what is going on a side path, there seemed to be some soldiers there and some action - I go there and get insta-meme'd on and the game tells me "You left the mission area"

SERIOSULY?! SERIOSULY?!!! I shut the game off and never came back to it.

I don't even play COD, that was a request at work for research (I worked at Activision at the time).
I don't expect GTA or Skyrim level of openness, but can I not just go talk to people who are literally 12 meters from the current path? Apparently not. Not only is there no exploration - THE GAME KILLS YOU FOR TRYING TO LOOK AROUND!

Why are you expecting CoD to be anything else other than linear?

Liner is fine - but c'mon, I stepped away literally 10 meters. It also looked like I could just go there, its an open street with people around, I wanted to see what is going on there.

The artists and mappers clearly put effort into building an environment so I wanted to check it out - instead got taken straight out of the immersion and penalised for trying to feel more involved.

I'm sorry for forgetting that COD is basically the player being a camera-man riding a mine-cart while shit is happening all around you.

You're playing a shit game with a shit campaign like Advanced Warfare, that's why. This is a game that required you to "press F to pay respects" which we all know turned into a great meme.
