But verb
We got HoI IV this year

Also Stellaris and Owlboy.

2016 has been a good year for PC.

Also the only game I'd say is universally praised on your 2013 list is Metro Verb.

I'd argue 2014 was worse.

>Nearly all the hyped up heavy hitters of the year such as Watchdogs, Titanfall, Destiny and Far Cry 4 all turned out to either be massive pieces of shit or slightly below/above average games
>The failure of AC Unity
>The failure of The Evil Within

I can count maybe 3 games that were good (Alien Isolation, Shadow of Mordor, Wolfenstein) and one that was great (DA: Inquisition) and none that were excellent. In fact, the only game that comes close to superb was The Last Of Us remastered, if you even want to count that.

Then you had the whole goobergate controversy that split the gaming community in two.

So nah fam, 2014 was pretty garbage.

2016 has... uh, Dark Souls 3?... In general, it was a year of mass disappointment, delays, and stagnation.
Battlefield 1, Civilization 6, Skyrim Remaster (free), Total War: Warhammer, Overwatch, Hyper Light Driver, Dragons Dogma for PC.

It's been a good year if you ask me.

I thought the general consensus for Total War: Warhammer was "meh".

Yeah, you make a pretty good case. I'd still say 2016 is up there in terms of bad years, though.

But it was horribly and inexcusably broken on launch.

The only reason you can find games now is because people realised that Halo 5 is awful and it was the next-best thing available.

If it's better now, it seems irrational to pretend it hasn't just so you can continue hating it.

It took upwards of a year to fix, and the general handling of the situation was to brush it under the rug. As opposed to say, Battlefield 4 where that launched broken and the DLC/ next game Hardline were delayed to get the game's netcode issues fixed - which ended with a new studio (DICE LA) being set up and three free maps + free weapons being given out to the community. It shouldn't have launched in that state to begin with, but they did a decent job with making amends, and the game still has upwards of 30k people playing over 3 years from release (Maybe not as much now BF1 released).

In contrast, the MCC recieved some basic patches to make it barely functional, then was effectively dropped and forgotten and not a word was said again and the game hasn't recieved any support for the better part of a year, if not more. Even now, the loading times for the multiplayer are extremely long and it's either the shitty netcode or that no one wants to play it - the skill matchmaking has been widened so much to find games in a reasonable amount of time that it's questionable why they actually have it. Either is a failure on 343/ Microsoft's part to ship a decent product and a failure to support their shitty product. I don't believe in just forgetting about missteps like these, as it just shows that a developer can release a shitty product and it doesn't matter. Plus, it also encourages people to be a bit more critical about what games they're buying; if a studio has a track record of shitty, incompetent and broken releases (And Halo 4, MCC and 5 - the three major releases by 343 - have all been generally not very good), maybe it's wise not to expect them to be making miracles any time soon.

It received plenty of updates before Halo 5, but we all knew 343 would abandon it as soon as Halo 5 launched. I'm not defending the practice, I'm just saying that's how they've always been and Halo 5 will be left in the mud as soon as Halo 6 is released. I agree that there's a lot of issues with the MCC such as not being able to see playlist populations or that the UI is still buggy, but I still find games relatively in a good amount of time. I can't give much experience on the netcode as every game of Halo 3 has been laggy as shit but every other game has been perfectly fine for the most part.

I'm not saying you should just forget about it--though, I was almost wholly unaware of the circumstances until just now. Like, I didn't know it took them a whole year to fix the game. That's pretty terrible.

As for 343's track record though, this forum seems pretty heavily biased against them. I'm sure they're fine by Halo standards (which were already low to begin with from my point of view).

Fair enough. You don't follow the games so it's fair enough you wouldn't really know the details.

Well there's a reason that the franchise is nowhere near the levels it was six years ago. I mean, Halo 5 dropped below Battlefield 4 (A game that EA said got about 18k avg players on Xbox One) on the XBL activity charts within a year, if not half that of launch. Halo 4 was similar. Even Reach, Bungie's most controversial game, still had a pretty consistent population a year or two from launch and still got a lot of praise for it's custom games.

I don't doubt there is a heavy bias against, here, but it's hard to deny that 343's direction for the franchise have been pretty unpopular amongst the majority if you follow halo. The golden ticket for getting people back was MCC and they royally fucked it up.

They either did some kick in the balls or royally fucked up, ignoring the MCC the notable flaws of each game that's been under them seems small but had lasting negative impacts. I'll try to remove the campaign problems because they're mostly subjective. I'm not trying to be prejudiced against 343 and will admit their flaws with the MCC launch is mostly on MS's part, but all of these things as minor as it might sound left players hugely dissatisfied.

Reach:
-Removed all DLC from playlists except for the Anniversary DLC
-Edited Invasion Playlist to include non-Invasion maps and gametypes
-Limited the amount of non-Forge Invasion maps (when was the last time anyone played on Boneyard or Spire let alone Breakpoint?)

Halo 4:
-Removed their OWN DLC from their playlists a week after launch
-Didn't include their brand new game mode Extraction until months later, only to permanently remove it, no explanation given
-Join in/out in middle of games
-Removed Dominion only to bring it back because of upset fans
-Butchered Forge/Custom Games, and no competitive games for the hardcore fans, nothing to please anybody

Halo 5:
-"Social" Playlists are just ranked playlists with rank hidden. With how extraordinarily efficient the matching system is with putting you against similar ranked players, even your casual non-competitive edge games will still put you into a challenging competitive match, even Community Action Sack is like this
-Micro-transactions out the ass, pay-to-win in Warzone BTB
-Firefight is a buggy mess
-Forge is very detailed, but the problem now is that it's OVER complicated. Unless you're a die-hard forger that spent hundreds of hours in Reach's Forge World, there's way too much stuff to understand.
-"Social" Arena playlists get recycled for something new every week/month instead of just keeping what people like and recycling playlists they haven't tried yet

And as said previously, they ditch their previous game for their newest one, leaving all the flaws untouched.

As for 343's track record though, this forum seems pretty heavily biased against them. I'm sure they're fine by Halo standards (which were already low to begin with from my point of view).

I almost forgot that, and how they excluded the Champion DLC from Season Pass buyers, saying it wasn't "Originally planned" (an experiment for the Req Packs in H5) but the season pass says "All DLC".
