I'm incredibly burned out on FFXIV right now so I picked up WoW the last couple of days. Noticed some thing in comparison to FFXIV since XIV is literally just a FF themed WoW clone:

>Leveling is boring as fuck. Started as a human mage, got to level 8 before the game started to lose my attention. Questing is kind of clunky in comparison to XIV so everything in that regard seems like a chore. Friend suggested a start as a Death Knight since it will instantly get me to lvl 50 and upon finishing the tutorial (which was very hands on and interactive) I entered the main world at lvl 58.

>Game kind of throws away old content. I'm lvl 59 right now and I wanted to started doing the classic and Burning Crusade dungeons and raids, however I have no way of "queueing" for these in the dungeon finder. Dungeon Finder only lets me queue for dungeons in my lvl range which at the moment is only Hellfire Ramparts and Blood Furnace for BC and for classic I just get Sunken Temple, Upper City - Blackrock Depths, and Lower Blackrock Spire.

Since I'm playing catch up with 11+ years on content I'm very overwhelmed on what to do or where to go. And because there's so much to do I start to lose interest if I spend too much time in one spot. The game suggested I go to Hellfire Peninsula in the Outlands for leveling but since questing is boring I'm left to do dungeons to keep interest which wouldn't be bad if I simply knew what I was doing or what would be beneficial to the group as to what my contribution as a DPS is.

If anyone can give me insight into these things that would be much appreciated. WoWpedia doesn't really answer my questions and r/WoW just tells me to keep questing....

Isn't that the game where you can spend like hundreds of dollars on a ship, just to have some cheeky fuck blow it up permanently?

The only MMO that keeps me wanting to play it these days is EVE.

The only MMO that keeps me wanting to play it these days is EVE.

While the ISK to real world money conversions people do are kind of neat, they really end up sending the wrong message about the game. No real world money is actually lost when you lose something in EVE. Where the conversion comes from is an in game item called PLEX that can be used to extend your subscription by 30 days. PLEX enters the market from people buying it with real money and then selling it in game. Last I checked the price of PLEX in Jita 4-4 (the central trading hub in EVE) was going from anywhere between 800 mil and 1 bil ISK.

In regards to losing the ship you pilot permanently when you die that's true. But the game simply wouldn't work without this mechanic. The permanent destruction of items is necessary to keep the player made economy of the game running. Without it you'd run into the same problems other MMOs have in their markets where there's just an absolute flood of crap that nobody wants or will ever need. There's too much loot and little to no consumption due to you only ever needing one of two of any item that isn't a consumable. So this actually makes industry (crafting) a worthwhile and lucrative skill set in this game because there will always be a large market for you to sell to.

It also helps to serve as a balancing mechanic for large scale engagements between corporations as when you take down one of their capital ships you've actually taken one down and they won't be able to pull another one out and jump back into the fight unless they happen to have another one lying around somewhere.

A small thing that I actually like about the system EVE uses as well is that I'm not stuck only being able to do one thing for the entirety of my time playing it. Provided I have the skills acquired I can swap between "classes" at any time I want if I have a ship that can fill that role. So if I feel like being a scout for the fleet on one day I can hop into an interceptor, jump into scythe or aug (depending on the fleet comp) if I want to be a healer on the next, or fly a DD cruiser if I feel like being and F1 pusher on the day after.

They kind of just went off the deep end after Lich King. They really need to rethink their business model because idk how long adding classes/reskinned continents to every expansion is going to keep players interested. It's really just the same formula repackaged over and over and I'm amazed how long they've managed to dominate the market for.

If you don't enjoy questing through zones... Well, that's half the game lol. Find a starting area you think you'd like and go there. I wouldn't advise using the dungeon finder much while you level, because it will just level you up too fast. If you want to do those old dungeons on your current character, look up the location. You'll have to walk there. Only do the low levels ones though. By 70 you should be able to solo all the classic ones, no problem.

Also, because I got WoD, I have a free level boost to 100. Should I ever consider that?

No, you can't queue for them. You're over-leveled. So you'll have to do it like the old days. Run there, and if you have friends, use the summoning stone near the dungeon entrance. Now, in the Finder, there is a grouping system for legacy content. People will put up slots for you to join. But, more than likely, no one is going to have a queue for old dungeons. It's mostly for raids, when people want it done fast, and 100% achieved. Like I said, once you're over the level for the content by a bit, it's easy to solo. I know you said you're bored, but it really is best to start from 1 and go to 100. There has to be an area you'd like. Some quests bore me too. I find ones I like. The starting area for Undead is one. Tirisfal Glades. Love that group of area. Or Dwarf. You'll start in Dun Morogh, near Ironforge.

Edit: Use that 100 boost on a character later. Fully level one first.

If you don't wanna do the uphill grind to 100 then yeah, but you'll pretty much be virtually useless in every raid due to the gear you'll get. There's really not much point in it unless you wanna quest at that level.

So there's a grouping system for raids? I would really like to experience Icecrown Citadel but I don't want to go and waste time looking for other players to run it.

Yeah, LFD was added in Wrath. LFR added in Cataclysm. And they further added a sort of party finder system in Warlords I think. So you can run any of the current Warlords raids in LFR if you have a high enough ilvl. For old raids, you either have to run to the entrance yourself and solo them, or look for a group under Legacy Raids tabs. It will have a list of all groups looking for people. Now if you use LFR or LFD, it's different. It's like the Duty Finder. You just wait, and it pops you in. But like I said, that's only for current content. LFR that is.

So in the group finder tab I see Dungeon Finder, Scenarios, Raid Finder, and Premade groups. I'm guessing that's LFD/LFR?

Yep. Premade groups is where you'll find people running old content. Usually for achievements or mounts. Or transmog.

What's Transmog? And under Premade it says "Raids - Classic" does the classic mean anything?

Transmog is making an item you have look like another one. Basically if you like the looks of some weapon, maybe an older one, you can make it look like it, while still keeping the stats of the original. And the classic raids are the raids from the original game.

So the raids between what is current and Vanilla WoW aren't to be used in the Premade search? Where would I go to get a group for Icecrown Citadel in WoTLK?

You can find any raid ever made in Premade groups. If there's a group on your server running it.

Why did they remove 40 mans? And why wouldn't they let you queue for older content? That seems more streamlined than waiting for others to notice your Premade Ad.

Not sure why they took away 40 mans. And as far as a dungeon and raid finder. In a way it hurts the game, a lot of people don't want them. It took away the social aspect of the game. Why run around or even talk to anyone, or do quests to learn about the raid/dungeon, when you can just be teleported there, faceroll through it without talking to anyone and move on?

Just got out of Slave Pens through DF, I see what you mean.

However would the community really care considering I'm looking at Premade right now and there's just groups for tackling Legion Invasions. Maybe it's just a bad time considering Legion is right around the corner, but should I expect old raids to still be in the Premade group finder more often than not? No one does Coil in XIV regardless of PF or DF....

Sometimes. You'll find Cata, MoP, and especially Warlords there, once Legion is out. Even Wrath. Not so much Vanilla. But as I said, you can solo them all, eventually. Except a few where boss mechanics might require more than one person. It was a different time back then. Just google search why WoW shouldn't have Dungeon or Raid finders and you'll see both sides points.
