gotta enable the scan lines and put it at 144hz and it’s so worth it

those indie games that try to look retro really shine once you have on those scan lines and they’re so snappy on a 144hz CRT

i was kind of put off from that style because pixel art isn’t interesting to me (seems like a relic that’s just simple and lazy to do) but once you have a set up where the game could fool you into actually being old school it’s like a blast from past and they’re actually better than the real classics
Didn't even know CRTs supported 144hz.

Do you just enable this in the service menu or gotta mod the board?
it’s called interlacing; both windows and gnu/linux support it natively. Just turn it on in the OS through the display adapter settings or the console and the monitor will automatically be switched to double its refresh rate but you get those old school scanlines

Man, those stalker games are great. Played through the first two, now on the last one before the new one comes out in December.

2023 was a very productive year.
Finally played through Prey and the Half life expansions.
Got to finish all of the Stalker games before the new game comes out.
Completed RE1 on original hardware.

Over the past three years, I've beaten over 200 games in an ongoing effort to crush my backlog. This year, I'm gonna try to slow things down considerably in the interest of enjoying other things about life. I'll still be gaming—my soul is currently owned by Street Fighter 6—but I'd expect the number of games I finish in 2024 to be considerably smaller than previous years this decade. Nier Automata, Silent Hill 2, Outer Wilds, Devil May Cry 3, and the rest of the Metal Gear Solid franchise are some things I'm planning on finishing this year. Currently enjoying a playthrough of Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

Witcher 1 was something.

The combat is glitchy at times and pretty boring, the writing is... mixed, great locations, unexpected nudity, slow walking speed, great variety of characters and enemies.
Its almost in the territory of "How did this get a sequel?"
Will move onto the second game later this year. Now its onto Unreal.

Just completed Silent Hill. Hard to believe a game like this came out 25 years ago! What an adventure.

Now to choose what to play next. Any suggestions (check the backlog list)?

OMG, Lost Odyssey is soo loooong. Three times now I thought "Okay, this has got to be it." Nope, keep playing.
I'm loving the game but its dragging on a bit at this point.

i think these are all the games sitting in the backlog for now, all on xbox as i dont have anything i wanna play on the Switch right now

currently, im playing the most recent forza motorsport, just grinding cars for the last achievement i need, which is to get 30 cars to level 50. i currently have 24 so im sorta almost there, but each car takes about 3-4 hours to level all the way up, so at the same time im still ways away  :'(

the past few weeks have just been a sorta "clean up" time for me, as i finished up the last achievement i needed for Sonic Colors Ultimate (which was to basically play through the entire game in one sitting) and finished up the hardest difficultly achievement for Bioshock Infinite. after i finish up FM i can finally get to playing "new" games again

as for what game i wanna play next, im not entirely sure. it was sorta a toss up between persona 5, soul hackers 2, or fallout 4 but at the same time theyre all rpgs, which will take dozens and dozens of hours so im kinda iffy lmao

extremely late on the reply but are you interested in the (supposed? not sure if they've 100% confirmed it yet or not) witcher 1 remake? i am

ive heard that witcher 1 has aged quite poorly, so im definitely interested in trying it out. i loved witcher 3 and enjoyed the second one too

Right now after having completed it recently - not really interested but I may revisit it eventually to check any quests I missed (there were a few sidequests I gave up on).
I now started the second game, playing it with Polish VO to practice my polski. I'm at the very begging still, will report later if it improved on anything from the first game.

You can get two games going in parallel. An RPG and a short one. Cod 4, Alan Wake, RE4 you can knock these out in a weekend or two each.
Metro games are kind of longish if you don't rush them.
Stalker took me a while, but that's because I wanted to take the world in. I got addicted to them after some time.

An excessively modded Tale of Two Wastelands and Stalker GAMMA were the last things I played while waiting for Elden Ring's DLC to drop, but my CPU cooler failed and my son was born so kinda limbo atm.

Pray for the return to games, fam.

thats true, i usually like to play one game at a time though, regardless of the length

funny story about stalker, a while back, i fell into the wikipedia rabbit hole and ended up reading about the chernobyl disaster, and thats when i learned the stalker games are based off that event. at the time, they were only on pc, then a few months later they came to xbox. if i like these games it'll be just in time for stalker 2

i finally finished grinding forza motorsport. every FM ive played (4, 5 and now this one) always has that one achievement that takes a bajillion years to complete, but im glad to finally be done with this one

as for my next game, i think ill just work on halo wars 2. i recently (finally) finished the campaign, and bought the dlc so thatll take me a bit to do. it's sad that infinite never got campaign dlc , they coulda done so much more

alright halo wars 2 (basically) done. as far as the story and dlc are concerned, im all done

seeing the flood return in awakening the nightmare was pretty cool, only wish the dlc was longer tbh... maybe someday we'll see them again in a mainline game

id definitely be down for a halo wars 3 someday too. at first i didnt actually like hw2 that much compared to the original, but it grew on me

next up, gotham knights

If you know, you know.
Too Human was something.
Positives: Little to no loading screens
Lots of armor pieces to customize your character with
You can't lose, you die and respawn with no progress loss
You are playing something like 'lost media' since copies of this game are not sold anymore and unsold copies were destroyed by court order.
Massive levels.

Negatives: Basically only 4 types of enemies
Controls take a while to get used to, if you don't figure them out - the game is beyond frustrating. (use the right stick to aim at stuff while holding RT). Once I realized that, the game was slightly less shit.
Incoherent story, at times funny when it is trying to be serious. Most of the times it comes off as pretentious 'too-fond-of-its-own-farts' level. The universe is never established. Who are we? What are we doing? Why are we doing it? The game assumes you know who these characters are.
CQC is a death sentence because enemies surround you and they inflict damage faster than you can attack them
meme-tier death/respawn sequence, you have to rewatch the same (unskippable) 10 second animation.
Weird censorship, there were instances of characters inflicting wounds on themselves and the camera always panned away. Yet there are enemies that clearly show mutilation.
Underdeveloped leveling system / tree.
a non-ending ending.

3/10, do not recommend. Play only out of curiosity.
