I think I have yet to be truly immersed. I wish I could play an Elder Scrolls game while taking it all in, sitting in the inn and just listening to the music. Instead I just run around doing stuff...

I guess for me it was Fallout 3/NV, I used to actually miss the wasteland when I wasn't playing it.

The Metro games. They are the few games where I can image what living in a post-apocalyptic society feels like. People struggling to survive everyday, etc.

I couldn't really say. I'm not even sure if immersion works like that for me. There's levels of immersion, and if I were to delineate them, I'd say: 0- not immersed at all; 1- invested/engrossed; 2- total immersion, where the outside world becomes more than just mute--it just stops existing, and your world becomes the game's world.

Games that have achieved that level 2 immersion for me include Wind Waker and Super Metroid, and to a lesser extent, Half-Life 2 and Fallout 3. All the loading times in those games just kill the immersion for me, but I still had a lot of fun getting lost in their respective worlds. Mostly Half-Life 2, despite being linear.

I got invested in Halo CE to the point where I'd often spend time just exploring maps and listening to the ambient noise and weapon/vehicle sounds. Hell, almost a third of my time in the game was spent in a lobby by myself exploring and looking for glitches. Maybe a 1.5-1.8 on Verb's scale. Imagine if I got my hands on a game with an actual story experience/good singleplayer at the time lmao

I wish I could be that enthusiastic about something today tbh.

You either die a hero or live long enough to become Mythic..
That's a hard question to answer

I'd say I haven't been TRULY immersed in any game, just moments where you don't think about anything around you and just focus fully on the game. Not about the mechanics or anything like that, just the visuals, story and world.

Multiple games have done that for me. Dark Souls, Halo, Elder Scrolls, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, KOTOR. Just some of the games that just put you into the moment.

Metro for the reasons stated above.

Alien: Isolation takes the cake though. Fantastic in every detail.

Goodness gracious, great balls of lightning!
Mass Effect 2 was the first ME game I played. I went into this game blind, not knowing a damn thing about it or the series. I just heard people say that it was good and I wanted to try a new series.

The first time I went to Omega, I was blown away by everything I experienced when I was there. As soon as the door opens and the music hits, it felt like I was actually there in real life interacting with people. To this day that remains one of my favorite gaming experiences ever and one of the reasons why I love the Mass Effect series.

Elder Scrolls IV when I was like 12

I literally wasted an entire summer playing that game

Fallout New Vegas was p great too, but I played that when I was in HS so I didn't get as immersed in it

Dark Souls so far is the most immersive game I've played. Probably because it's the first RPG I've ever enjoyed.

Dirt Rally is fucking insane with a FFB wheel, people are probably tired of me talking about it but its the fucking bomb

when i first got a wheel i was doing several hours of hotlaps on an empty track by myself thinking I can keep getting a better time, if there's any kind of game you can feel completely into, it's a simulator with the controls to match

dirt rally has crazy FFB, it always feels so intense and involved, the co-driver calls (or pacenotes) are really important for getting good times - you have to listen to your co driver tell you where the next turn is while trying to anticipate the information going 100 mph in a thick forest full of jumps and hairpin turns

this isn't DR but it's also a great track sim
YouTube

Here's at real rally driver playing DR - you can't tell from the video by how he reacts, but he's really enjoying it and just flies through the course topping the leaderboard, the game emulates the reality so well that even without the external forces the driver is able to play it well. (There are VR + motion rig setups for as close to the experience as you can get). The FFB was designed using feedback from actual rally drivers who have playtested the game. DR is just amazing, they're usually short 5-minute-ish courses, but for that amount of time you devote your attention to the task at hand and what your co-driver tells you, it's just such a pure experience
YouTube

There's no FFB sticks for Elite which is a shame, but I have sim controls for that too, it feels good just to fly the ship and I've already clocked over 700 hours on it mostly flying around aimlessly

The best part is that even when I finish DS3, I still have Scholar of the First Sin, Bloodborne and Nioh (Japanese samurai variant coming out in the future) still on my list.

And I'm not even halfway done DS3.

The series isn't finished, right? There'll be more entries?

I hated the demo of nioh I played

There's talks of them remastering Demon Souls for PS4 (the original) but the series is essentially finished. Miyazaki says he's done with dark souls. He may let somebody else take it up as a project in a couple years but he's done with it. Wether this means we won't get any souls like games (like bloodborne) I'm not sure

Dark souls 3 is getting a DLC in the next few months and then another early next year, and the dlcs are usually pretty hefty

Why did they go from Demon Souls to Dark Souls?

it just felt like it tried too hard to be dark souls without hitting the same notes. Also the difficulty felt kinda cheap.

demon souls was a failing project that that got shoved into Hidetaka Miyazaki (who at the time was just an employee at From) and they basically told him, do whatever you want this game is a failure anyway. It was a cult hit, so he created Dark Souls and that was truly his baby. He's now the president of the company.

Awh, man. I love the setting of Nioh.

Is Demon Souls worth remaking?

I never played it because I never had a ps3

You might still like nioh I just personally didn't
